ohbuyer, or anybody for that matter, How long will my ginseng stay good if kept in a cardboard box which is in a paper bag sitting in the freezer? I have a feeling I'll be holding for a while..haha

Why is it in the freezer Once dryed and placed in your cardboard/paper bag just keep it in your bedroom closet. When you take your seng out of the freezer it will draw in moisture.....so when you take it out place your seng on a paper towel or screen so it drys...again..it won't take long and it will be fine.

if ya lay it out of the freezer be sure to put it somewhere where it gets plenty of air circulation to dry the condensation or itll mold.
Good Luck red, i hope ya get a good price for it.

Dad made wire mesh drying racks in the roof joists of our wash house to dry his seng and yellow root. There's some up there that's been stored in a paper bag for I don't know how long. Dad passed away in 1984, so it's been stored dry for at least 25 years. Keep it dry, and it should last almost indefinitely, I would think. JMHO, YMMV.

would it still be sellable after 25 years since its been dried?

Don't know. It's the last he dug before he passed on, and I never thought of selling it. I would assume so. It's super dry, still looks ok, and still has a faint odor to it, so I guess it could be sold. Don't plan on it, though.

Never store seng in the freezer. Seng that is 25 years old probably won't be any good anymore. Prices may get a little better than last year.

I know people are getting more for their seng, but I am at 325. I keep after my buyers telling them I need more money on my root, but they keep saying, looks like there is going to be a record dig this season and they prefer to wait and see how big a dig we really have. I know that Cathryn posted that somebody had sold about 4 oz. for 405 a lb. That is way high at this time.

Just got off the phone with a buyer in WI. I sold to him several years ago, so he pretty well knows what my ginseng is like. He said he was paying from $375 to $425 per pound right now for ginseng like mine.

Went to another website that is mostly about roots. One person said they were offered $450 per pound for dried wild root from a buyer in Kentucky. That was today.

I go up to the lake most weekends and go fishing or grouse hunting. I don't have a computer up there, but plan to put one in soon to mostly make my wife happy. Go to: www.wildgrown.com. They have all kinds of topics regarding wild root there, but mostly ginseng. I don't know the buyer from Kentucky, as it was just a person on the forum who said that either he or someone he knew was offered that.
