Here's my average results of the NAFA Feb. sale:
Beaver: 17.62 Fisher: 56.00 Muskrat: 6.06 Otter: 62.00 Coon: 22.12 Mink: 14.25
I trapped 6 weasel to see what they would bring, but they were held out. Plus, my big possum that measured 4XXL was held out.

My 4XXL possum sold today for $4. I would skin possum all day if they all brought that price.
The weasel weren't worth trapping at an average of $1.90. Better to let them live until prices get better on them.

Looks like the rats took a hit on the auction. How was the grade and sizes on your coon and beaver, if you don't mind me asking.

I haven't gotten the report showing all that yet. I just have the sales summary that doesn't break all that down.
I can tell you I only saved one possum and he was a monster!

rats here averaged 5.74 with a 6.25 hgih.
we have real big nice rats compared to western rats. whcih means they shoulda avergaed somewhere around 4.00.
ive seen em both..eastern rats are twice the size of western and better furred, imo.
i knew the rat market wasnt gonna hold.............

Wow, sounds like the 'rat market pretty much collapsed compared to what it was. Im glad we didnt wait to sell now. Thats fine with us as Illinois has a big shortage. I think the otter have something to do with it. We worked hard for the 'rats we pelted. Guessing were covering 200% to 300% more ground for maybe 30% of the 'rats we use to catch. Farm ponds that use to be worth couple of dozen 'rats now have maybe 4 or 5 you can catch but plenty of otter sign.

Mink are rare here now. I think the otter had something to do with that too. Bigger and more powerful predator. Where we use to catch 60, 70 even 80 mink now its 10, maybe 20 if we're real lucky. Some years its in the teens, few years we didnt even approach 10 last two decades.

i think youre right about the otter displacing or killing the mink and rats.
its like the red fox and the coyotes, imo.

spade, I only had 9 coon, all adult males ranging in size from 2XXL to 4XXL. The grades varied with several selects.
All my beaver were adults except one. I had 12 in all. I'm at work and I keep forgeting to bring my NAFA report in with me. I thought this was poor for the beaver and the sizes. There were no damaged ones. I hope this helps.
