start with a 8in. x 3/8 galv. gutter spike come down 1in. from the head a drill a 9/64 hole slip in approx. 2in. of #9 wire that is precut @ 30in. bend over and place vice grips on the portion of #9 away from the head Turn gutter spike upright in vice and coil wire up towards the head to get 3 turns around the spike Lay the spike back in the vice and curl the portion beneath the hole in the opposite direction as the coil above the hole. and now you have a durable snare support that is approx. 32in. in lenght that will allow you to hang a loop 10in. in diameter that is 10in. off the ground. BTW 3/8 or 1/2 rebar with nuts welded on top work too. The gutter spikes are a little costly but I have some that are several years old and have more than payed for themselves. The biggest benefit from this system is that its solid, and it will not roll on you. Spot welding works too, but I'm a crummy welder and usually burn the #9 wire in half.

Very good post. Here is how I wrap them on my stake (24" long 1/2" rebar)... I then weld the very end of the wire to the stake. The wraps prevent breaking of the welds. I also welded for a living for 7 years. If you'll make a puddle of weld on the stake and let it flow into the #9 you'll not have the burn thoughs. Keep up the good posts! ~ADC~

Here is an easy one to make. I use old spring pins out of traps and tack #9 wire on them. They will work in any ground.
