25 traps out and 2 coon and a possum. First catch in a plywood dog proof set. Didn't know it until I went to take him out, he had both feet through the hole in the plywood and in the trap. Also had a old bob tailed sow sitck her head in one of my PVC mink cubbies. A little 110 did the job. Hope I do better tomorrow. I was a little disapointed today. I blamed it on the cold snap. Steve

Yea I had considerably more than 25 sets out and only got 7, all little dinks. I did get a full albino though which kinda makes up for the poor cat ch. Weather looks a lot better for tonight.

His name is Lucky. 3 legs blind in one eye, one ear ripped off in a fight with a cat. Remember the old joke. HA. Shaggy an albino coon that would ba cool! Trapper82 where is the trap holding that coon? Looks like it on its ear. Steve

glad to see that you guys are catching some fur and not staying home cause the threat of a poor fur market this year. thats the difference between real trappers and "money" trappers, imo. shaggy congrats on the albino. if you have a camera id love to see pics of it. ive never seen one before.

One coon and two possum today. I had a bunch of sets that were hit. Traps set off but no fur. I remade a most of my sets today.
Used Blackeys sweet bait.. Can’t remember exactly what it is called. I smeared it on the pan, put a little glob on top of the plywood board. Then used some Hawbakers coon lure.
I had used Speed Dip on my traps. Not sure I like it now. The traps seem to slick. A lot if them are snapping after I leave the set. I think it cost me a mink today. Steve

Buckrun.......when ya use that type set up......use something visible beside the trap pan.......putting the lure/bait on the pan will make them pull on it instead of pushing on it. That is why ya had some misses.
An albino coon is something i avhe wanted all my life.....never have caught one yet. It is actually ilegal to take any all white animal here.

My camera is in Northern Ireland with my daughter but I had a friend take some oics. He posted them on another board but I don't think he is a member here. I couldn't post them if I had them. I'm slightly computer challenged. I'll see if I can get them here somehow. Hey Ohbuyer if Cj sends them your way could you put them on here?

That is why ya had some misses. Thats what I thought. I had wired marshmellows to the pan. I used a sticky bait on the pan today thinking that they would have to scrape at it to get it off. Hope it works. steve

alot of the time having bait or lure on your trap pan will make the target animal dig at the trap and you'll miss alot of fur that way because they'll either dig out the trap from the bed still set or spring it completely as they dig at it,IMO.
take a file and try to get some of the speed dip out of the pan notch cause thats stuff is slick and will make em fire like waxing too heavy will.
or if you have adjustable pans you might have to tighten up the tension if its set too loose so the dog is more firmly into the notch when set. be careful if you do have adjustable pans that need tightened a little not to tighten them too tight or you might miss some fur because the traps wont fire. just my .02

Sunny's right. I use speed dip (Formula 1 to be specific) and you need to file it off the dog and pan at the point where they meet. Just a small spot. But that stuff makes it nearly impossible to set the trap and have it stay set.
