I was told last night a fella sold 16 pieces of fur...all coon cept 4 mink....got 80 bucks for the lot. They were in the round if i recall right.
I am in area 12 of the NAFA deal and my buyer says look for a 6-7 average with 12 as tops. Gonna take a chit load of coon to make a dollar this year.

I mis-typed that above.........I have corrected it now. Still only 5 average on the fur though. Even with 4 mink in the lot.

a fella told me last his dad has been buying them at an auction most every week east of here. For pennies on the dollar......got over 2 dozen mixed traps last weekend for less then 50 bucks. Some he says haven't even rusted yet. Best part was the 8 Monty's he got in the bunch ready to go.

It isn't just the US economy that's bad, it's the whole world economy that's in the dumper. That affects the fur market too.
These low opening prices are based on speculation. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the market brings later on.

exactly.
i hope the market rebounds by May, but i seriously doubt it will.
the coon market was getting soft last may, imo, or they would have sold all they had in Canada IMO.

T7 your right...it is a world wide mess.......that is why most doubt fur will do much this year. China who buys a chit load of our fur is as bad or worst financially then we are. Russia bought a load last year...but it had to be financed by NAFA for them to be able to do that. Wihtout any way of NAFA getting credit.......it would be to see how they can finance anything like they did last year.
Two things can help us big time. IMO
One a really rough winter world wide. many countries still use fur for cold weather clothing. if it gets cold and i mean real cold....they have to have clothes no matter what.
Two.........and this sounds bad............no fur, or very little fur, is caught this year. That at least would drive the supply and demand factor to the real trappers side.
What I fear most is that trappers/hunters take their catch this year and hold it till the market goes up. For a few to do that won't make any difference.....if the majority does it...it will be years before the market goes back up. (We will see two years catch flooding the market)
