Not special I know, not even big. BUT I have been reading and listening, and trying and trying and asking (you get the point) I got a call from a friend who had a beaver cutting down 'mommas' yard trees to shove in the outflow of their HUGE lake. I set for him and caught him the same night. I used a TANGLE stake (I had not had luck with that yet).... Drown textbook... end of story! I put this one up (FIRST time for that too... jeez it has got to get easier!) Not beautiful but done. Thanks for the help!

Good Job BM..........now go get it's partner. And the rest of the colony too for that matter. LOL
When you skin them beaver....cut through the lower lip with the first cut. Then cut the entire lip off when ya get there. Looks like ya "clean skun" that one....not a bad job....but ya do have to remove the lips or ya will have some rot there. Also.....cut the feet off right at the ankle......ya won't have as large of holes that way......if ya put it on a board pull those holes closed and nail or staple them shut.
First beaver are a bear to get right...over all ya did a fine job.......as with anything...practice makes perfect. After the first 100 ya will be doin it in about 15 minutes and have a really nice pelt to sell. THEN I CAN BRING YA MINE AND LET YA SKIN THEM FOR ME. lol

Nice catch and good looking job on the skinning. I have 5 beaver so far and 9 muskrats and just went to look at a spot where the beaver have flooded a 15 acear block of land and was told that up the brook from there they have another 10 acear block flooded. Lots of rats in those areas too ;D.

Barnman, you should get a beaver board pattern as I notice that you stretched that beaver more round than it should be. You can get them for free from The Fur Harvesters Auction.

I set a 330 yesterday, cant wait to go check it. I seen a beaver swim under it so I set it. I dont normally set for them until after Thanksgiving. But I think hes looking for a home, I see no other beaver sign anywhere so i thought I would give it a shot. Looks like a good one, Nice catch

Barnman, you should get a beaver board pattern as I notice that you stretched that beaver more round than it should be. You can get them for free from The Fur Harvesters Auction. all ya have to do is give em a call or email em. i got mine a couple weeks ago. hey a little trick, when you cut the legs off gather up the fur and use a rubber band to wrap at the base of where the leg was. the beaver will dry and then all you have to do is cut below the rubber band and the leg holes are already shut. saves nailin them. if youre careful you can reuse the rubber bands too. use a sharp utility knife to cut the hide below the band. ill look for a pic to post to show you what im talking about.

heres what im talking about. use a sharp utility knife to cut just below where the rubberband is . the remaining leg comes off flush against the hide and you dont have open leg holes on your finished pelt. its alot easier than nailing them shut, imo. this sint the best quality pelt but you can see the bands clearly.
