Made some coon bait a week or so ago. Made 10 sets with it yesterday and had 8 coon waitin this morning.
Crab apple........banana..........corn cobs.........persimmons.
For the Crab Apples.............corn cobs...and persimmons I put them in a pot ...covered with water to cook them down.......brought them to a boil then simmerd for awhile......ran them all through a blender and mixed it well. (I kept the liguid to try also. )
basically made jelly out of it. With some liguid pectin i won't use for real jelly.
I ran the bananas through the same blender and added it after I had the rest ready to go.
Added a few shots of vodka and bottled it up. It has an odd smell to it....but the coon have liked it so far.
I started out just goin to make some corn cob jelly and use it for bait. but as usual got to playin and tossed the rest in with it. LOL.........I still think staright corn cob jelly would be a great bait for coon.

Got colder last night and the same 10 sets held 7 coon and a possum this morning. The stuff is workin. used the liguid as a trailer at the sets today...gonna see if i can 10 for 10........lol
I also used this stuff where I believe a grey fox has been lurkin...aint got nuttin there yet........will wait another day or two then use a different bait a that set.
Tried it for kicks at a few rat sets........some held rats....some didn't......not sure if the bait had a thing to do with it though to be honest. I have never found any bait or lure that really seemed to affect rat trappin at all. When ya set in the runs how would ya know? Although two of the sets were feed bed sets. Both of them held rats.

7 more coon this morning from the same 10 sets. That is 22 coon in three days from 30 sets. I think I am likin this stuff. LOL Enough so I baited most all my sets with it this morning.
Didn't did so good on the rats this morning though. Only had five and I don't think I had any of this bait at the sets they were caught in.
This weekend I am setting another area with Tommy. I plan on useing this stuff only to see how it works there. Will set both for coon and rats....with a few mink sets thrown in. I would love to see Tommy have to skin a bunch of coon this weekend. LOL

Dang huck, sounds like the stuff is really working. So how much credit goes to the bait and how much to the loation?

Well .....I have 24 coon sets out there. Been baitin with other baits/lures at the other 14 sets. I have caught 4-6 coon a night at those sets. Averageing 7+ at the 10 sets with this stuff. The ten sets are in one finger of the lake where I am trapping. Probably the best of the two areas I have set there. I will see if the others catch more than they have been in the morning. BTW...all sets I have out are dry land sets. I see no need to trap wet coon at such a place as this one.
Another thing is, this place has not been trapped much at all for over 20 years. One guy has been there but he traps very litttle and more for mink then coon. It is loaded with coon as ya may suspect. Big fat coon feeding on wild food and city garbage. Probably averaging well over 15 lb. per coon so far.

Gotten alot colder here...catch dropped some too.
However.....the bait has still been out catching my other baits. After rebaiting with this stuff I have caught 8 total one night and 11 last night. Almost every coon I have caught has been at the sets with this stuff. All but three or four as best I can recall. The ten sets that had it from the start haven't been producing but 3 one night and 3 last night.
The bananas in it has started to give it a differnt smell again. Stronger....but I am not sure it is a good smell. I am leaving it as is for now and watching it closely. I have no idea what a coon thinks is a good smell anyway. LOL
