No, in fact the one in the next county over runs a pretty good sized line and writes articles for a few major publications. The one in our county stopped at my shop last year and definitly knows trapping and fur handling. Our previous CO was a big time coon hunter. So far we've had great luck. with generally good guys.

youre lucky. once ya run into an anti warden it kinda sours you on the whole lot.
not saying theyre all bad cause the majority arent but when ya meet one that makes even getting a permit on a WMA a big chore, you get frustrated.

Just like cops. Most are bad, some are not.

I avhe always ahd pretty good luck with the state fellas.....we have one now though that is out to save the world........I aint met him yet...but ahve been warned by others about him. Also had a really good CO tell me ho9w the state now has several new folks that know nothing about hunting trapping or even fishing. they are in it only for the money......i don't see that as a good thing at all.
The US Forestry guys are an entirely differnt thing though........they know black and white print and that is it. No sense of humor or common sense at all. Bad Bad BAD

same warden that ran it down your neck last year about a WMA permit? As far as I know, unless they have a valid reason not to issue the permit, it's a shall issue permit. Let the district office know about him. Are you guys under the Parkersburg district? If so, the # is 420-4550. ;D

We're pretty fortunate. Our C.O. in this county is a stand-up kinda guy. He enforces the regs., but fairly, and he's a personable fellow.

I've never met the wardens here. But I had a run-in with a fish warden last year - he was walking his dog - the dog found one of my traps. I was completely legal, but he tried to tell me I didn't have my name/address/phone number on the trap. When I explained that i had my state issued trapper ID # (and that's all I'm required to have) and showed him the tag, he "knew" that it wasn't enough. I decided not to argue since I wasn't in trouble. He also told me that my 1-1/2 Bridger was a "big and scary trap". I would actually like to meet the game wardens around here sometime, just to see what they're like.

Wonder what he would think of a TS-85 beaver trap!

82, it was clear he had no idea about anything trapping related. But hey, he only needed to know about fishing stuff for his job.
He probably thinks a #10 hook is big and scary.

Our ECOs do it all. Fish, game, trapping.. We had one that had permission at a boat club to launch his boat to check licenses. The VIP at the club came in on Sunday and saw this guy had people handcuffed to one of the docks for no licenses or other stuff.. Needless to say, he did not launch his boat there anymore. He is retired now..

Had permission to launch his boat? Jimeny crickets......they don't need no permission here to go anywhere. A CPO here has more authority than any other police officer....including NOT needing a warrant to search. No probable cause needed either. If they wanna look your place over.....they do.

Well, there was a state launch a mile away, so he had to go back to that. I had a run in with him too. He came into the Dunkin Donut that I managed all the time. I was always talking to him about hunting and trapping. He gave me some good leads for spots to do both. Was out rabbit hunting one time with 2 friends. He was running my friends plates while we were hunting ( we did not know he was there). I was coming out of this thick brushy spot when I came face to face with him and his 12 ga! He had us unload our guns one at a time. I kept asking him him what was going on. I was using his first name and he totally ignored me. Well, the state boys showed up next! I knew all of them. They started asking ME what was going on. I told them I had no idea! Then one of the troopers asked the Co why he was giving me a hard time. THEN he finally admitted that he knew me. Tried to tell the trooper he didn't know it was me. To which the trooper then reminded him that he had my ID in his hands! What it was, was that my friends car was in his wife's name, so he said he wanted to find out why a woman's car was there. That was a fun hour and a half. Oh yeah, my friend got a ticket for no inspection!

82...sounds like someone needs to put a stop to some of his BS. Women can't park along a field there?
We had one in Southern IL. a few years back that would only stop FEMALES while on the lake. Took at least two years and a bunch of complaints....but they finally canned him. Of course a enraged husband stompin his azz in the ground was needed to open many eyes. Funny thing was...IMO.........he wasn't doin it as a way to meet or see women,....he was just to scared to approach a man.
