Would that be 15.00 for xxx coon? Are those beaver prices are for all sizes? Sorry , something sounds fishy. And if they are buying for Zander you can bet they will still have a 5.00 coon average.Would one of those buyers be Ron or Don Gorby or Orby by any chance?

If it is the same Zander that lives about 70 miles south of me...........he paid 3 bucks each for 16 coon taken to him last week. Or I should say he offered that......JR turned him down.
He-ll at those prices I will ship my stuff to him.

Bet you don't get that good of a price on many pelts, if any. I don't understand why a fellow would pay more for furs of poorer quality than Iowa coons are , and you can buy Iowa coons cheaper than 15 dollar top end. I would say if the man had a few hundred coons to look at, that he would be a bit cheaper on the end price. With a 15 dollar top, that will put his average at about 8 bucks. By the time he gets them put up, he is going to have more than 10 bucks in his coon. Somebody is esither full of baloney or needs to wake up.

if ya got alot of fur, your avergae is generally gonna be round half your high price..which in this case would be bout 7.50, according to the buyer.

Cathryn I wasn't trying to pick a bone with you, but just telling you what my thoughts were. I do believe what you say. I hear a lot of conflicting stories about fur prices and kinda wonder why some people are paying so much more for fur than others that live in a better fur quality area. Even if the prices were for finished fur, the man is pushing the prices way to far. I talked to a buyer through a pm on trapperman that said he was going to pay a top of 15 bucks on no 1 A color coon on the xxx size. This buyer is in your area. I suppose that price may be okay, but, If I were to buy on a color grade, I would have all my hunters and trapper P oed at me. The amt. of A color coon that comes from your area and mine is very minimal. What really has me confused is the info I get off of Tman anbout what groany is paying for rats. I can believe he is paying a top of 4.50 on good rats out of select areas, but bt the same token I see some fellas say that they are getting anywhere from 2.50 to 3.50 straight average price on carcass rats from the same area. Groany is jumping all over the price board trying to cut his averages on rats.

Ohio buyer. The deerhide mkt. is crashing. From what I know it started either late last week or early this week. Of course we all know the cattle hide mkt. has been gone for better than a month. It kindly amazed me that the deerhide mkt. got going as good as it did, with the cattle hide mkt. as bad as it has been. I know that there is a different use for both, but, it still had me scratching my head.

It is what it is, so far as the market goes. Trap for the sake of your enjoyment, and sell your fur for the best price you can. If you dwell too much on the financial aspect of it, you're not gonna be enjoying yourself.

BTW, our local buyer stopped buying beef and deer today-not sure if he's going to buy coon at all- taking a wait and see on it. That's not indicitave of the market as a whole, just his particular financial outlook.

Well you guys shot a big hole in what I thought was gonna happen this year. LOL
I have been thinking the larger skins....deer and so forth would still be ok......and the small stuff such as weasel and possibly mink, possum, rats, and maybe even the fisher..........would hold up. Why I thought this I can't really say....just did. I guess from what I have read and been told on prices of those skins. ( I know nothing about fisher btw)
Why the crash on deer and cattle? Aren't they used for so many different items they should be ok?

I didn't do as well as I hoped, numbers wise. I didn't break even or make gas money but got lots of exersize.
When/if the weather stablizes, I'll put out cable restraints for yotes to get some experience 'cause there's no money in it.

for the type fur I have heard sold...that is about right. Seems to drop alot for skinned versus put up though....most folks I know only lose 2-3 bucks for the difference.

My gut tells me sell what you got as you go. Methinks it's gonna drop a bit as the season progresses. JMHO.

I'm a drop point for NAFA. There has been quite a few new people dropping their fur off this year. The comment I'm getting is this isn't the year to be selling locally.
