its been raining all day again today and my sets are a mess.
i checkd this morning and didnt even bother to remake them because the water is up real high and it would have been useless cause its sposed to rain most of the night.
it sucks because theres only gonna be a few good days left and everyone of thems vital. the next couple nights are sposed to be cold then its supposed to warm up sunday and monday then another cold fronts coming through on Tuesday.
are ya'll having any problem with rain or temps in your area?

Mine were all fully submerged conibears and North Carolina has a 72 hour check law which I plan on taking full advantage of. Most have probably been sprung by debris, will clean and reset late tomorrow afternoon if the water goes down.

When you know what's coming you need to adjust your set and location accordingly. I'll bet Jerry still has sets working and is still catching some coon. Just need to listen and watch a man ply his trade and you'll learn a lot. Of course you're a smart woman and already knew that. LOL.................

Jerry knew it was getting close to the weekend and didn't want to tick you off by catching a bunch of coon knowing that you'd be checking empty traps. Darn he's good, got all the bases covered. Man's got to plan for the weekend. ;D

So far....(knock on wood).......weather hasn't been a big deal here. All the bad stuff has sorta went around us. That may very well change Monday though.....acording to the forecast anyway.

Our season for dirt trapping was only good for about 1 week. Now it is frozen and icy once again. I hate ice

I wish we had consistent weather. It will be below freezing for a couple of days, then warm up and rain, then freeze, then warm up, more rain..... I pulled middle of last week to hunt deer and will be really busy the next couple of weeks so may not have any sets in the ground until after Christmas.

I was gonna set Sat.......then thought it would only be for one night afore the cold and ice got here. Then sunday it was beautiful all day. I dang near went to set several times. Talked myself out of it everytime..THANK GOODNESS.
I did put out three fox sets right up the road. All within 50 feet of each other. Got a small grey this morning...turned her loose.......when i released her the silly little thing stetched afore she took off........went about 50 yards....stopped and turned to look at me again. I aint sure she thought I was nuts...or she was so cold she thought about goin home with me. LOL

Instead of making a pocket set why not try a dirthole using peat moss, a cubby, or a trail set above the high water line. Most of my coon have been caught in dry trails using 220's and a coon will work a dirt hole as well as a pocket IMHO.

Bill, i have tried dirtholes before without much luck. ive had coon work dirtholes every which way but loose and still no coon catches catches in em. i caught a coon in wyoming in a cubby and ive caught em in blind trsil sets too. Huck, id say that foxes brain was operating very slowly due to hypothermia.. in opthers words she wasnt in her right mind, same as Dorothy aint. either that or it was just a dumb male ;D

The angle of your hole...blocking.....and trap placement is what determends a catch at ANY dirt hole. Get it all right...and a coon or any other critter can't help but step where ya want it too.
That fox knew I meant her no harm.....she was cold and wanted me to tend to her. Same as Dorothy knows the same thing. Ya ole jelous crab azz.
