I was wondering what a deer stop is and how it works, maybe even what one looks like? I have a handfull of snares I got from a trade and I'm wondering if they're setup right. I've caught a cat and a coon in one but the other day I unfortunately caught a deer. I've since pulled all my traps and snares until I know what the heck I'm doing. That's one incidental catch/mistake I can't afford to make again. I know it's my responsibility to know how my traps work and set them properly. Any information I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i called jerry and askd him for you. h said hd measure it for sure when he got back into the shed but is about 5 inches from the lock.
he said to tell you if youre worried about killng a deer hed go with a break away because if ya snare a deer round the neck even with a deer stop its gonna more than likely die bcause the stops set to draw down to about a 2.5 inch loop and can still choke the deer.
in wv you can use a deer stop of a breakaway. he uses deer stops cause hed had someissues with coyotes and breakaways in the past.
hes gonna give me the exact measurements in a while and ill post em for you.
maybe someone lse on here can also answer you cause like i said , i have yet to snare anything but had hoped to this season but it didnt work out.

I had snared the deer by the foot. It didn't kill it but it did some damage.

well the stops are designed in wv to go down to a 2.5 inch loop so itll close in on the foot but wont tighten down to cause damage.
son as i get the exact measurements ill get em to you. hes skinnin now so itll be a while.

I am thinkning for a 2.5 inch deer stop ya put them on at 7 inches from the lock. I would have to go measure mine to make sure though.
Get hold of Wheelers, Newt, or Randy, I bet any of them would know right off.

2 1/2" loop = 7.85" from the end stop. or 2.5" X pi. (3.14)= 7.85" Algebra was good for something. ~ADC~
