the thing was about 4 inches from leg tip to tip. YUCK!

That big, it sounds like a Wolf spider. The size sounds a little big to be a Hunting spider.

It looked like a writeing spider (at least thats what we call it) They usually only show up July- August. They make a web that king of looks like alphabet letters in the middle of it. (Hence the name). They ain't never bit no one that I know of.

sadly, theres a first time for everything so to keep from being the first one to suffer a bite at the fangs of such a Gawd awful looking spider, i had him squashed and flushed by my son and have had no regrets in doing so.

Heck, that's about the size of one of them crabs they have on the east coast, isn't it? Never understood why people would bother with such tiny little crabs.

depends where youre at on the east coast.
we used to set some crab pots and we caught some decent sized crabs,imo.
not king crabs of course but plenty big enough to eat.
me and the kids used to love to go crabbing on warehouse road.wed use strig and chicken necks and a di net there. it was fun.
