Just wanted to get a "poll" type deal goin on here to see what everybody prefers and uses and that they think of both. So let the debate begin. ;D For me I think they each have their own place but I believe I'm slowly starting to favor offset traps more for k9/cat trapping. I like how they can get a better grip on the critter. But I still think both will catch animals consistantly, just comes down to a matter of opinion for most I think.

Lots of opinion on this question....just all depends on the person and their line. I run a mixed line...might catch 4 fox one day, might catch 10 coon? I have no place for offset traps because of the coon. Ran 2 dozen MB550's last year and regretted it because of all the lost coon that found my K9 sets. I KNOW there's gonna be lost coon with a 550, but would I have lost that coon in a regular jaw laminated 1.75? Probably not...retooling everything this year.

I was shocked when I walked up on this, a coon in a MB-650, If the coon would have had something solid to get a pull on or a front foot catch it MIGHT have not been there.

Those MB traps are real nice, don't get me wrong...but I just like the Northwoods and Montys just as well. That MB450 has me thinking though ;D

If or when I don't care about coon, I use the offsets. But.....I generaly will take a coon anytime.
My experiance with offsets has been to many lost coon and skunks too. On a strict canine or cat line, I would use nothing but offset and laminated traps. But then we can't trap cats in IL. anyway.

Bit it is on hold while making the 450 offset, because there have been more requests for the 450 offset.

I don't recall having an animal pull out of offset jaws, though I don't use a lot of them.
I've been using Sleepy Creek 1.75 OS. The offsets are swaged into a wide surface rather than stamped out. It's more work to tune but still a nice feature.

I'm probably in the same boat as you BRT - I get about 2 fox to 1 coon in my canine sets. Offsets would cause me to loose some coon I think.

We don't have a choice for land sets. They have to be O/S, or soft jaw or a laminated jaw trap, and the it needs to be an approved type/manufacturer. But we can use snares after I think Nov. 15th.

Im starting to like offsets more and more for land trapping. Some are factory done and some we did ourselves. I dont care for a "large"offset and I prefer standard jaws for water/beaver sets. We use offsets for the ADC line and we havent had any problem with coons getting out although for summer work I wish theyd get out as we are after yotes 99% of the time. I like laminated jaws too but Im not sure the cost is worth it? Soft catch traps I wont carry in the truck anymore, far as Im concerned they are junk.

What do you folks think of the Bridger traps ? The #3 os 4 cs ones are $21.58 ea. if I buy 12 or more. To me they look like a pretty rugged trap.

Ive got a few Bridger coils 3's and 4's for beaver. Mine are solid traps. I havent tried any of the bigger footholds in offsets so if thats what your asking I have no idea? I prefer the 4's over 3's for beaver. I know some love the no.3 CS Offsets for yotes.
