I'm meeting with a farmer next week to go over his property. It's not a big farm, but he recently added chickens to the farm. He really wants as many fox removed as possible. (Although I'm guessing it's only a temporary help at best - if he has chickens, more fox will move in.) He says he knows where there are two dens that were being used this past summer and that he sees a ton of fox. So, how would you approach this - hit near the dens hard (I have to be at least 5 feet from a den here in PA)? Hit near the chickens hard? I'm also thinking if he knows of two dens, there are other fox coming and going to the chickens too, so I will look for other trails and sign as well. I don't know the full layout of the farm yet, so can't give too much detail. But when I go there, I want to have some thoughts in mind. Also, I thought about asking our resident fox trapping expert for help, but Sunny doesn't want to come up here to PA anyway.

jerry said to tell you that the dens have no bearing on the trapping now, none.
all they tell you is there were foxes raised there.they dont use the dens except to raise the pups and that by the time the pups are weaned theyll be gone. from the dens.
they will come back and use the same dens for next years pups but right now the dens arent a consideration in where to set because foxes dont live in dens ther than when theyre raising their pups..
he said to set the food source and set the same as you would for every other fox.(the intersection, travelways, ect.
thisisnt me talkign its jeryy and hes caught a ton of fox many inPa and out west.
he trapped foxes in Reading for 6-7 yrs.

Thanks Sunny. I thought the same thing about the dens - not a factor right now. But the farmer claims they are still using them? Maybe he saw them this summer and figures things are the same now. I will work on trails/sign.
Either way, if I can manage to catch some fox off his land, I should make a good contact. I also need to go to the farm and see if there is any coon/rat sign along the water areas.
Tell Jerry I'm trapping south of Reading about 20-40 miles depending on what spots I'm on at a given time. The terrain is similar to around Reading - maybe a little more built up here.
