After all the flooding we had there are rats around. That's mostly in ponds where the water level was stable. I scouted while duck hunting this weekend and it was better than I thought it would be.

Where I am going for mink and coon (hopefully some otter too), my creeks are fed by springs so there is a pretty good flow. But I did help out by damming up the tails of the pools.. They aren't big creeks really (ok, cricks) and it only takes about 5 minutes and I am done.. Helps for drowning sets and to keep things even.. The nice thing is, that with all the leaves falling, you can't even tell they are there.. Ah, to be discreet...

river guy........just because the water is gone...or real low...don't bet on the rats NOT being there. The canals I trap here can be full one day and only 6 inches wide the next. The rats are still there EVERYDAY.
In fluctuating water I still set the runs and feed beds. Toilet areas also. Rats are very much a creature of habit. My biggst problem catching them dry, is the owls hawks and other predators getting them before I do. Makes me wanna scream. LOL

most creeks here are still low and the lake is 4 1/2 feet down from just 2 weeks ago.
dont pass up them little dry runs, mink still travel them even though no water. nothing like a hole with smelt in it to make em stop.
