I have a spot that I stumbled upon that I think has mink. What's your favorite way to catch them? I have until 1/11 to get them. The spot is a creek with a ton of brush along it. I found a couple of prints in a couple of different spots.

A couple pocket sets with fish in the back and fish oil. Maybe a blind set or 2 also.

Some pockets with rat carcasses will get them.......blind sets at any little point along the crick........give them something to stand on with a trap on it....or put a 110-160 there. If ya can find their runs blind set them too. WAIT them out if ya can.....
If you found an area with tracks check it each day....some mink will use the same place night after night........if they have a food supply and cover...they will not wander all over the country. they are the easiest to catch of course.
Another good place is where two or more differnt types of ground meet. Mud or loose gravel to rip rap or large rocks. Make a set there at both ends. Sand bars in the middle of water are good to. Set the points of them.
get some pics of the area and we can help ya more .

What size trap?
I have a spot where a blind set would work well - mud bank under a bridge - they have to walk in the water a little to get through the bridge. I was thinking about a blind set right where the water starts.
I can make pockets pretty easy too. How big, and how far in or outside for the trap?

I use all 1.5 coils for pockets and will use 1.5 longsprings for blind sets. Make the pocket about a foot deep if possible with the trap just inside.

For my pockets I shave the bank a little on each side of the pocket, offset the trap slightly just outside the pocket tight to pocket/bank and place a stepping stick horizontal at water level adjacent to loose jaw. Almost all front foot catches.

if ya a got a bridge ya got the mink.....lol
use anything ya want or can and fence it down against the wall. I use rocks most of the time. Or you can build yourself a mink box and use there. Use a1, 1 1/2, or even a #2 trap set on light hair trigger. If useing conis use a 110 or 120. put a roof over the set up. They love edges and any over head cover makes that edge even better.

All my mink & coon traps are 1 1/2 coils. I've got some #2 B&L long springs, but rarely use them. The coils fit so much nicer on pockets or blind sets, I don't see any reason to use the LSs.

I borrowed a half dozen #11 longs (victor) from a guy I know. I'm going to use them for blind sets at a bridge. One on each side.

I dig a pocket as deep as my elbow. I then stuff a muskrat carcass in back. I use 1 1/2 Longspring about half way into the pocket. Keeps the coon and possums out. I then add a Qtip with Mink gland lure in front of the pocket. I only use gland lure late in season like after Christmas. Early season I use fish in the pocket and clam oil in a small hole next to the pocket.

Huck, It's hard to explain the layout, but only one side will work .....
Except they lowered the water in the dam and by default the water under that bridge....... there is way too much dry ground now for a blind set. I'm gonna pocket it, like coonripper says - but I don't have a rat carcass.
