I feel lucky that I never caught a skunk. I really don't want to get sprayed. Has any of you ever been sprayed? Many times. Also have had to get the rabies shot series because of a skunk I caught in a 120. The trap busted open the skull and brain matter leaked out,it was dark when I took it out of the trap. The head felt wet but thought it was the dew. When I got under a yard light I seen I had brains on my hand and on a fresh cut from skinning about an hour before. Called the vet to see if it could be tested for rabies. Vet said no because the head was damaged,he suggested I get the series of shots because 80% of skunks statistically carry the rabies virus. So that skunk cost me $940 in rabies shots. Lesson learned, pay attention and use a flashlight, lol.

Actually thats the short work coyotes made of that horse in less than a month. They wouldn't touch the other one,it died from pneumonia. The one they ate had to be put down becaise of a broken leg. But I'm sure a possum will come along and clean it up.

The farmer said it didn't get any medication. That was the first thing I asked when he told me he had a dead one. Then the following week he calls and asked where to put another one,it fell on the ice after an ice storm and broke a leg. It was getting to the last week of cable season so I told him to put it by the other one. If nothing else it'll be a good draw station for the next couple years. I'll be gang setting it for coyotes.

I did a little research on my grinner prices for the past 5 years. I skin around 150 a year and about 1/3 of them I tan myself and sell privatly. In 5 years I shipped 536 and averaged $4.11 after commission. Those are shipped to NAFA. Possums are easy to put up and do pay for at least half the gas bill per season. Now if I can get into the coon carcass market that will pay the other half of the bill.

I see awhile back i was being talked about on this thread.......I aint ever a crabby ole man.....and i aint ever gotta worry about a gal again...so there Sunny and earl...and whoever else chimed in on that....that is all i am gonna say about that. lol
I skin possum every year....not every one I catch....but most. Trouble is gettin any buyer around here to buy them at all. Most will pay a dollar for them....have gotten as high as ten back in the good days.
If i catch any yotes this year I doubt seriously i skin it.......I hate the damned thigns anyway...aint gonna tote one out...skin the stinkin thing..and get a whoppin 5 dollar bill for it. I heard a buyer out east say last week he would charge anyone 20 bucks if they left one at his door. Smart man.
