I went out and bought a huge bale of peat moss for dirt trapping. and was wondering. is it as good as everyone says it is? I certainly hope so. Cus sprinkling salt on ur set dont always work to well.

Bust the bale open and spread it out on a tarp to dry. Most of it is packed wet. After it's dried, sift the big chunks of wood out of it.

I use it every year. I mix it with non iodized salt.
It works for me.

I really like it for Coyote and Cats but the Greys will dig in it if you don't pack your trap....aleast that's what they did to me. It's ain't fun trying to catch fox on 1500 acres that you've educated to dig traps.

I have used it effectively over the years mixed about 50:50 with dry anthill dirt, and have no recall of the peat moss content prompting a trap bed digging response from red or gray fox.
Are you positive it was the peat moss that caused the "digging?"

any of you sift a light coat of dirt over it to keep it from blowing out of the bed?

any of you sift a light coat of dirt over it to keep it from blowing out of the bed? Sometimes yes...with my trench sets the wind doesn't blow it out much at all.

any of you sift a light coat of dirt over it to keep it from blowing out of the bed? I sift a coat of the local dirt over my peat to try and make it look more natural. A light coat, sprayed with a little glycol. Of course, I don't have two full seasons worth of experience, so my opinion may not be worth much.
