Dirt holes, mainly. Some in urine posts and flat sets. A few in blind sets on trails ( tire ruts ) coming it to check other sets. Put in a walk throu flat set today.. Just for the heck of it.. Want to know the trap? Laminated (outside jaws) Victor 1.75 double coils spring, new #2 music wire coils, baseplated and 3 MB chruch prof swivels. Also put in a dirthole above that with a #2 Montogomery, baseplated, 3 MB crunch proof swivels, outside jaw laminations. All chains are #3 American made chain. I used red fox urine on some sets, coyote on others. Lures where made by a lure maker friend of mine. Bait was commercial made by same friend, deer scraps and my own. Coons where all pocket sets (dry, water not open). Drags, home made. Sleepy Creek #11 dbl jaws, Duke 1.5 coils, dbl jaws (wanted to try 'em out) and a couple of Norwoods #1 coils. Bait was my own. Also used salmon oil and crayfish oil.. Oh yeah, bobcat set, was a cubby with feathers for eye appeal, friend's lure (one call lure, one in the cubby), deer scraps and friend's cat/K9 bait. Again, Mongomery #2 RJ coil same as above got the call. One dirt hole did get a Northwoods #2 coil, base plated, 3 MB Crunch proof swivels and 6 feet of chain. Home made drag. Was going to use it in the cat cubby as a walk thru, but the danged rocks ticked me off. Stake was being a bear.

those northwood #1s arent worth a crap for coon far as im concerned. year before last we lost alot of coon from using them.
we completely got rid of them. last year we didnt use them at all and this year we just got rid of them all together.

You can believe me or not. I don't care. But, I catch coyotes every year and most of them are dirt holes. Saying that. In my area, you need to perfect a flat set to get some of the older coyotes. Just too much competition here. I have caught them in both sets before BUT I prefer the flat sets for a few reasons. 1st one being, you don't get anyone messing with your traps. 2end one being, fox and coyote here have seen all kinds of dirt holes lol. 3erd one being, you don't get flooded out when it rains. Good Luck,

flat sets are my favorite for yotes here. I don't catch many...cause I don't try to. As OST once said...they aint nuttin but long legged possums....and worth about the same here.
Second choice is a post set. With two traps.
