What angle do you put on your dirt hole? I have changed to almost 90*. I guess I am making them 78*-80 really. I make mine around 12" deep and about 11/2" in diam.

about 75 degree .the other is fine .are you putting some thing in the hole like wool or cotton .this tends to get the best of them .if they can't see in the hole then it drives then nuts.but do remember fox are not always hungry thats why i use flat sets and more so scent post or urine post. if a fox comes to a dirt hole and don't work it they will work the post set 90% of the time.i never set one set always pairs.example 1 dirt hole \ 1 post set or 1 flat set and 1 post set.

Bill I really don't have but one set I know how to make. I make a dirt hole. I make several different types, but I always have a hole. I made a scent post the the other day and had nothing touch it. I need to learn more about this set.

i am going to go to alot more flat, post and walk threw sets. they don't fill up with water like dirt holes and i don't seem to have as many misses.
put you some cracklins or smoke pork like ham hocks in those holes for those greys. i cut it up in small pieces and throw a few around the set to get their attention then put several down in the hole. he will just have to have it.

tell me a little about the area.are there water with beaver around?if there is no water with beaver on that post use a good castor lure like jim river beaver or dobbins back breaker .any beaver lure that you would set scent mounds.caution cats use this also for a rubbing post. with .try this set its easy take a bucket of dirt and and make a mound about 15 feet from dirt hole and place a trap on the top no lure ,bait or urine.nothing .make this set close to your dirt hole .if the fox are shying away from the set they will first check the set out by standing on the mound.people thing post are for urine or a gland type lure but they are not a curisty lure works on it.i learned this one year behind my house .the ground was to hard for a wooden stake so i drove a 12 inch spike in the ground and put a flat wooden stake on it in a 75 degree slant .it would only go in the ground a couple inches.and the only lure i had was jim river beaver lure.(my fox lure had not come in yet).i put all post sets with the beaver lure. six post sets with no idea that it would work.(ground to hard for flat sets and dirt holes)out of six post sets i caught 12 greys in two days before the area went cold.i knew that i was on to some thing.

hes right about that.another thing that has worked for me was when i had a trap set off two or three time then i drive a metal stake right at the set and put lure on it.some times you have to give them some thing else to focus on.

it all depends on the terrian, some of mine are at about 60 degree, but most of the time I try and keep them around 75 degrees. I had one a few years ago on the side of hill that was probably about 45 degrees, It was real productive for the first 3 weeks, 5 yotes in all.

you have a good point cpa ..some times there is no way you can put the hole the way you want it.some places you can't stake so you use a drag and other locations you can't dig a dirt hole so you use a flat set. the most important thing i have learned more then any thing is to keep a open mind.
