The family of the late Roger Kreutz filed a lawsuit in March in St Louis over the fatal head injuries he received when a car knocked him down in a Starbucks parking lot in 2008. The driver was Aaron Poisson, who was trying to get away from Kreutz, but Poisson was not sued. According to the lawsuit the cause of the fatal injury was negligence by Starbucks because it had mindlessly placed its tip jar in full view on a counter, goading Poisson into snatching up the money and running out the door. Kreutz, as a Good Samaritan, chased Poisson into the parking lot trying to retrieve the employee's tips and was struck by Poisson's car as he tried to escape.

That's one of those things you hear that is so unbelievable that you have to check out on truthorfiction or snopes, and you usually find out it is fiction.
Well, this one is a fact. Lawyers ought to get disbarred when they file lawsuits like that.

Many years ago, I had been in the insurance business for about 2 years. Our insurance company had to defend a case in which a woman had shot a man. This happened in Rockford, IL. Here's the story: The woman's husband was a trucker, gone days at a time. They lived in an apartment building where there had been some burglaries. So, for protection, he bought his wife one of those little Browning 25 caliber semi-automatic pistols; the cool looking chrome-plated with pearl grips kind. One night while he was on the road and she was asleep in bed, an intruder entered her apartment. The intruder jumped on top of her, to do who knows what? She fought him off and managed to retrieve her little Browning. She got off several shots, one hitting the man dead center in the knee cap, putting him in severe pain and dropping him. The police were called and the man was arrested. End of story? Nope. About 6 months later the lady is sued by the burglar she shot. He claimed she had permanently disabled him to the point that he was now unable to seek employment. Luckily, back then we didn't have as many liberal judges lacking common sense as we do now. The judge in the case took the "You must be kidding" attitude and it never made it to court. With some of the liberal judges we have today, the burglar would probably end up a millionaire!

Happens all the time here in IL.
While in Jr. HS I had a good friend who's father owned a weekend place on the river. it had been broken into several times during the week. He posted the property several times with signs and warnings. he finally, after calling the PD didn't help, Stayed at the cabin with his truck hidden down the road at another cabin. Two intruders came and knocked out a window, gained entry and was aboput to ransack the place. he hollered at them to stop. One turned toward him and pointed a gun at him. he shot them both with a shotgun. neither of them died, nor was really seriously hurt. they both wound up pressing charges against him and he was sent to prison for several years. For what? Discharging a weapon in a dangerous fashion.
One of the two was later killed during another burglary attempt. the other last I heard was a crack head and had lost his mind.
