Debt ridden CA has lost more than 610,000 jobs in the past 10 years thanks in large part to the high taxes and regulatory burden imposed by the democrats.
Three democrats are proposing an impractical measure that would require state and local governments to buy only Made In USA products.
Construction and public works contracts would only be awarded to those that agree to use or supply American made products.
John Thiella, D-CA, said, "The decline of our industrial base and the loss of high wage jobs, has led to suffering for unemployed workers."
The measure seeks to address a distressing trend: Many CA-based sompanies have been moving their operations to other states, according to CNS News.
Analysts say the blame rests with CA's burdensome tax and regulatory environment.
A fine example of why increasing taxes on the rich doesn't work. But, taking away government subsidies to large corporations would.

LOL, so a state that is strapped for cash is willing to pay more for an item made in the USA than its cheaper foreign counterpart? Sure that will work, idiots.

It's a move in the right direction.
Haus if everyone keeps buying the "cheaper foreign counterparts" what hope do we have of ever getting americans back to work? The idea is to put people back to work, which will create more tax revenue, and in the end help ease the financial burden on the states. Granted it's a small move in the right direction, but at least its finally something in the right direction, and 1000 x's smarter than any stimulus package any liberal has ever came up with that only benefitted their buddies!

It's a move in the right direction? ?? No..it is nothing more then another Buddy gettin buddy something.......The usual political BS. Simply telling a starte to only buy AMerican is like sticking a straw in a gaping hole...it wouldn't work in a million years. Get to the CORE of the problem......in CA. that would be all the STUPID regulations they have...and the ungodly high taxes.

A straw in a gaping hole is better than ripping the hole bigger IMO,
California has always been the leader in stupid regs and high taxes, don't see any of that getting changed in my lifetime, too many liberal wacko's living out there.

Hmm, they don't want anyone buying forein junk BUT they have whole city's as sanctuary's for illegal aliens? Yea that makes alot of sense. I really don't care what Kalifornia does anymore, soon as they slide off into the ocean the better, still don't understand why we don't just sell that whole state to France, move the UN building to San Fransico and then everyone would be happy.

You want us to buy American then start with redoing trade agreements to benefit Americans. We will continue to buy cheap stuff because our own trade agreements benefit other countries over our own. Workers comp, taxes, unions, and numerous other things make it more expensive for an American to build a widget as compaired to a third world kid working in a factory.
My neighbor once told me he worked in south america many years ago building a factory. The workers did not have welding goggles. Once they could no longer see he would just get the next guy to start welding. How do you compete with that?

I agree its definately not going to fix anything, and Haus I agree that the trade agreements are our biggest enemy. However if by buying materials that are made in the U.S.A. could help put even 50 people back to work its definately a plus for the unfortunate 50 that aren't working right now.
My point of it being a step in the right direction is its better than them saying were only going to use foreign made materials from now on because they're much cheaper.
I can remember a time not long ago dang near everything you bought was made in the U.S., anything that you bought made in Japan or China was more of a novelty, and back then everyone in the U.S. who wanted to work had a job. I realise theres no way we can go back to those times with our current trade agreements however I dont forsee any of the politicians we have in office now doing anything about, or even considering changing those, so for now this bill, IMHO, is at least a step forward.

I don't see how buying all the materials made in american then using illegal workers to put the materials together is helping anything. After WW ll we were the ONLY industrialized nation that wasn't blown to pieces from war so there was a huge demand worldwide for our products since no one else had that capability to make them.
Today EVERYONE is making the same thing so whoever can make it cheaper (china) right now is going to get the business, is just that simple. For what it's worth though american labor isn't the highest in the world, I asked a worker at a Mercedes plant here why in the world they built this huge plant here instead of in Germany, he told me it was labor cost/benefits, lol. Was cheaper to build here and ship to Europe than pay german workers to build them!
Cotton was king here for many years, lots of textile plants all over provided jobs to rural people. All of those jobs paid low wages/no benefits. Now we have car companys building plants all over, high paying jobs/good benefits. So basically this 'buy american' crap won't work, what will work is as shown here is making it EASY and PROFITABLE for companys to come here and build their plants, same as TX is doing, they are booming and Kalifornia is bankrupt! Not hard to see which policy's and agenda's work and which one's don't.

here is an example from the REAL world.
Part of my future plans is to build and sell traps. Yes traps. cages, and other types too. I live and run my comp. in ILlinois. yet, when that part of my plan goes into affect, within the next 2-3 years, I will not have it in IL. Why?
Because of the taxes and regs here compared to MO. In Mo. they will actually help a new biz in several ways. Good ways. Here in Il. the first thing out of thier mouth is "how much ya gonna make? How many are you going to put nto work?" In other words they couldn't care less about a new biz, just the new taxes they will be getting. Only way they would help is for me to hire only minorities and go through the Gov. BS they peddle. Il. has much higher taxes and is NOT a right to work state. Everything here is tied up to the unions and other BS.
Now if they would change, I would gladly stay here. But why would I when I can get a better deal right accross a river?
So far, and I have owned this company for 5 years now, I have never borrowed a penny, never used any Gov. help at all, and have hired who I wanted to. That is how it will stay. Some tell me I should do this and get that from the Gov. NO WAY!!!!!! I'll make it, or go down all by myself.

REAL world? Your comparing micro economics to macro economics. Your a tree but the problem is with the forest. Is your per dozen price going to be competitive with imported traps? Do you have the next big thing to sell? You saw what happened to the grizz getter after the patent was gone. Most of the American made stuff is much higher in price. I know you will say quality is #1. Quality costs extra and could keep you from being as competitive. Read all the posts from new trappers about the good luck they had with Dukes.
Support young trappers, thats where your profit is. As a hobby trapper I have enough traps to keep me busy until I die. Except for lure, replacement springs, and tools the guys that have been trapping for several years quickly buy enough traps to last. Just my 2 cents worth.

Here's my two cents worth on the overall problem with this country: Most politicians, especially democrats, don't what to appear uncompassionate so they show compassion by spending other people's money.
That's a big part of the reason this country is in financial trouble because too many lawmakers are so compassionate with other people's money. That's really not true compassion. True compassion is when you dig into your own pocket, not other people's.

I agree, democrats want to give away money to americans. Republicans want to spend money killing foreigners then paying to rebuild what was blown up. This weekend marks the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 where 3,000+ Americans died. Since then we spent billions if not trillions and lost another 4,000+ Americans. I know we have likely killed hundreds of thousands in return, but ya'll want to complain about being in debt. What shape would we have been in had we simply blew the heck out of afghanistan and been done with our lust for revenge in a month? How about also revamping CIA and FBI rather than create another similar agency called Homeland Security? How much could have been saved?
Anyone know the cost of all unfunded entitlements per year?

I don 't know of any rep. that wants war. Dem. either for that matter. I do agree we should ahve blown the heck out of the enemy and been done with it. Trying to be PC with the world is a joke. We are the #1 power yet today. Who would stop us from doing as we dang well please? China? Russia? Neither has the ability without destroying the entire world.
The core of the problem can be blamed on either side. It is how each person looks at it as to which side is right and which is wrong. IMHO..neither side is worth a scat today. Elected officials don't care about anything more then lining thier own pockets. And who's fault is it they are elected? OURS!!!! The American people that allows any of them to make a few speeches, talk real sweet, make false promises, and look good.

I disagree that it's only republicans that get us into wars. Vietnam was certainly a war that the democrats got us into and killed around 60,000 for nothing.
haus, it seems you take Wild Bill's opinion of what to do after an attack on America. After the first WTC bombing, even though he knew it was binLaden, he did nothing. After the second bombing, when Bush was president, Clinton appeared on Larry King and said he felt these terrorists wanted something and Bush was jumping the gun by starting a war against them. Instead, Clinton felt we should sit down with them and see what it was that they wanted. Even I could have told Clinton what they wanted: To kill Americans, you idiot!
Revenge, after 911? Not revenge, rather response to break Al-Qaida down and not allow them to grow in strength or we would be experiencing another attack much worse than 911 was. Bush handled the aftermath of 911 very well. He understands how radical Islamists think.

The same! They spend money willy nilly whether we're at war or not. But I think the problem you and alot of other's have is you think we can just up and run back home now that all the heavy fighting is over with and call it good! So far the other side hasn't even hinted at surrendering! If we had bombed them for a month and called it good I imagine we would of had 9/11 part 2 and part 3 before we finally figured out we're actually in a war whether we want to be or not.
I agree there is no reason for another gov. dept like homeland security BUT Obama has carried it off the charts with obamacare, now you'll have 152 new gov. dept's and another 16,000 IRS agents with office's, furniture, gov. vehicle, benefits, etc, etc, etc.
But no, we can't cut gov. spending, we just need to raise tax's!

I know that several of here believe that we must kill to change the hearts and minds, but the 6 year olds that were around when the war started are now 16 and able to pick up guns and fight us. I'll make a real world comparison we can all relate to. A poor kid in afghanistan can join an extremest group and get food, shelter, maybe food for his family, and follow an ideology. A poor kid in the united states who can't afford college and jobs are scarce can also join a group that provides pay, food, and shelter. Whats the difference? They both believe what they are doing is right based on their belief system. My wifes nephew is enlisting and has to wait 8 months to join because so many people are looking for work, that the military is a viable option for them. Is Afghanistan any different?
Maybe bill was a coward, maybe bill knew it was a waste of money and additional lives. Bin Laden and Hussein were no hitlers. I've been to the holocaust museum twice and firmly believe it was a justified war. When you walk through the train car or enter the room filled with leather shoes and that smell hits your nose....... It was a justified war.
100+ per day or aprox. 40,000 per year die in car crashes in America. Start a war on Drunk Drivers and blow them up or put a 50caliber through them. More affective that our current war and would save way more American lives (except for the dead drunks).

That thought process is why we lost in vietnam! We had the enemy up against the ropes but he american people gave up and helped them out over here, the war wasn't lost on the ground, it was lost back home!
Let their 16 year olds join them, keep killing enough and doing damage to them and eventually even the dumbest of people might start to see there is a better way to make a living than dieing!
My problem is we're not killing enough! No side will surrender until you bring them to their knee's, look at Japan! Had we had the wimpy spineless PC presidents we have now days back then, 100's of thousands more would of died simply because we didn't have the back bone to scorch their city's with the biggest bomb's we had.
All we're doing now is having a skirmish here and a skirmish there, neither side making any progress.

Exactly! We are not fighting an army or a country, but semi-organized individuals. No different than trying to kill all the rats in New York or trying to eradicate coyotes from the US.
As for a better way to make a living.... Our tax dollars are flowing into that country but its still a poor country. That war has benefited their economy and helped kill our own.

Spies. We need to infiltrate the world with thousands of spies to keep tabs on threats. We need to be proactive, but when you lose 3,000 then you help kill our economy and get 4,000 more killed, maybe there is a better way.
And if you think this long drawn out war will prevent it from happening again your mistaken. Regardless of how many we kill they will continue to try. When those marines shot those Samolia pirates in the head did it stop pirating in that part of the world? Terrorism is a case by case fight. You get intelligence on a threat you react. Also if a dictator is killing his own people like in libya, just send in a team and kill him. Don't spend billions and give firearms to untrained rebels who may not like us either! Giving rebels free weapons is not a bright idea.
Being proactive before it happens is not sitting back. Our reaction is usually like using a stick of dynamite to kill a fly.
Articles:
Americans are so fixated on the terrorist threat, they do not see the daily and more real dangers to their lives: every year guns kill 30 thousand people (odds are one in 314); over 42 thousand die on the roads (odds of one in 78); nearly six thousand die on the job and hundreds of thousands are hurt from just these three causes. You have a one in five chance of dying of cancer and one in 119 of committing suicide. Even the food Americans eat is killing them faster than any Muslim fanatic could ever dream of killing. Your chances of being killed by a terrorist in the United States based on the number of dead over the past ten years is pretty close to zero.
Terrorist Attack Terrorist attack: With the recent London bombings and September 11th not too far behind, death by terrorist attack is fresh in many people's minds. A poll in Conde Nast Traveler in February 2003 found that one-third of respondents feared a terrorist attack. What are your real odds of dying this way? Historically speaking, it's a one in 9.3 million chance--which is a slightly greater risk than you have of dying in an avalanche.
Uh oh, maybe a war on avalanches is called for!
