I reckon I am gonna ship fur this year. However I haven't completely lost my mind, I am shipping to Fur harvesters!!! NOT NAFA.
I talked last weekend with a fella down south of me that catches 100 or so coon every year. He shipped to FH for two reasons. 1 the pick up guy for nafa set a time and place where he HAD to be or he lost out. The FH rep told him if he wasn't ready that he would come by his house and get them when he did get them ready. That right there would mean a whole lot to me.
2 was the commssions. I admit since I have never sent fur to either I am not totaly sure how they work that stuff, but by talking with this fella it sure appears FH don't charge as much in the overall deal. He also said something about a rebate before the next season starts? I have no idea what that is about.
I understand that FH will not bring me what NAFA might, but that is fine, I still don't and never will trust nafa with any of my fur. They are owned by fur ranchers, at least FH is owned or ran by fur trappers.

I'm a pick up spot for NAFA. I have never sent anything to FH, but have some trappers drop fur off at my place who tell me they used to sell to FH, but NAFA pays better and usually gets better prices for their fur. A good way to find out is to look at the listed prices paid by each at their auctions.
I make it as easy as possible for trappers to drop fur off at my house. There is a certain date they have to have it here because of when it gets picked up. I encourage them to bring it prior to that date and many do.

Hey 7, glad ya made it over here.
I understand they have to have dates to get the fur up there on time. What I got out of talking to the fella was that the pu guy for nafa is a real jerk. I don't know who it is so I don't have a opinion other than what I was told.
Nafa usually does get a better price, but I have seen enough over the years to not want to deal with them.

Being a wfsc member has allowed out commission to go down to 4 %. Were getting 5. % reduction on last years fur. And well get an actual check for our rebate

That's 7% less than FH.

FH might be owned by trappers but NAFA has never went bankrupt..EVER..and FH still rides the mink ranchers coy tails . Why do you think they have their auctions in conjunction with American Legend..aka..the Seattle Fur Exchange.
Our commission with NAFA... After our 5% rebate..was 4%.
I don't know why anyone would shop their fur wheee they acknowledge up front they'd make mow money selling it somewhere else.
Hick you're nuts.lol

Trouble is...I have a very limited area to trap cats. have to go out of state. Not that I wouldn't.
I will have loads of ccon, rats, and several yotes. Some fox and lots of beaver. But unless I conect over in Mo. on cats, I won't have any high dollar fur to pump a check up with. Closest thing to hhigh dollar fur I can catch ehre is otter. Only five of them too.

chit, I got cats on the farms right here near the house. And yes, there are cats on the island. We jsut can't catch em. I can catch em, but can't sell em if I did. I have released a few they aint much fun to turn loose.
When down in TN. I made a cat set under an old RR bridge. Next morning I went to check the line and when I rounded to bank of the bridge an old Hobo jumped up screamin at me. Scared me half to death. What he didn't know was there was a cat right behind him. That cat squalled and the hobo lost his footing and slid down the bak into the icy creek. I didn't know what was goin on. When I figured it out I was laughing so hard I like to have never got that hobo out of the water. He was madder then a wet hen to. Got his fire goin for him though and he settled down a bit. He told me he hadn't seen no cat since he camped there the night before. I don't know when it got caught. Was a nice cat to. I ran the rest of that line and gave that old hobo some beaver meat to munch on. He was happy to get it. Offered him the cat meat, but he didn't want that. LOL

As I have never sent a thing to NAFA, can I join that shippers council right off? Aint it like a 100 bucks or so? Is there any down side to joining it? I won't have to ship others fur to would I?

lol huck we apy 200 dollars per year but there is a lesser amt you can pay we the 200 because we sell so much fur and we kind of stretch and finish our cats on site. and with the 200 we can ship anytime and get free cold storage up there that we dont have to pay storage or hold our fur and ship all at once. they send us boxes and lables. and every time we 40 cats finished we ship em to make more room also with the membership nafa only gets 9 % on the sale as opposed to 11%. which is a lot when you ship 200 plus cats and who knows how many coons and other misc.. its well worth it if you are on the move and need to ship as you go. plus 200 isnt much if your shipping a pretty hi quantity of fur...i think you can ship directly without being members but you have to contact em and have em and have em send you the shipping boxes

im real curious why cant you sell the cats you catch. ?? i havent heard of that before. the reason we target cats is they are the best money animal in the state. lol and they are easy to finish lol . stretch em trim em with a pockt knife and turn em and your done ... never heard a law that wont let you sell cats.

we don't have a season on them here. Our fabtabulous DNR(politicions) don't think there are enough here to catch.
I have told many more then one to come spend a few days in the woods with me. I would show them some cats. We have them all over the state now, but the southern areas are really good. In fact there are more cats in southern Il. than in either Tn, or Ky.
I look to have a season within the next 2-3 years, but it will be a quota deal like the otters. I expect they will let us keep 5 a year. But then ya never know what they are gonna do.
I can catch them in Mo. And I hope to this year. I have two areas there now that are fur rich. Already seen cat sign at one. That area is right on the Mo. river, it is like a fur factory. That season don't open till nov. 15th. I really expect to have some otter caught within a few days of that.

yeah, I am always lookin for better tools that makes life easier. LOL
Ya know, I used that magna gland both here and Tn. I think I used it over in Ky. too. Caught yotes cats and fox with it. I am sure it was responsible for some coon and skunks too.....LOL
I use mostly lures but when I was trappin cats out of state I used as much bait as lure for them. Mostly beaver parts, but other meat as well. I always liked big cubbies for cats.
