I knew I should have went there to begin with. LOL
The place is covered in sign. Coon, beaver, otter, yotes, and rats. Anyone know of a water set for yotes? Seriously, we can't set on dry land there. I think I know how I can catch a few yotes in the water, but it won't be a high average set for sure. Any ideas?
Trouble is it is gonna be about a mile to mile and half paddle in the canoe each way. Goin down stream will be a breeze, coming back, especially with a load of critters is gonna be a pregnant dog. And of course I will have the wind in my face coming back up river.
If I disappear just have a toast in my honor. LOL The Ole Mississippi river is not one to tangle with.

I'm back!! My wife finally figured out how I could get on here without an error screen and I can even post now!
Huck, I once caught a fox in a pocket set. He went down a slide wire and drown. I was surprised. I also caught a fisher in a pocket set. Both of these critters I always thought were land dwellers that pretty much stayed out of the water. But, I suppose if they're hungry enough......

I am gonna use pockets for the coon for sure. Then a variation of a fish stick and spring set for the yotes. I am also hoping to find where they are crossing from the main land to the island. I will use blind sets there. I hope. LOL

I have a 13 ft. semi v and a motor I aint sure what is....LOL I wouldn't trust that motor on the river. It quits runnin on me and I would be south of St. Louis in no time. LOL
I am hoping top get a 16-18 ft. river jon with at least a 50 before next year. That would open up alot of ground for me to trap.

I may find out I aint no youngster....LOL May kill me tryin but I have little option right now.
Ten years ago i would make that trip and enjoy it. I trapped that island and another one close to it for years. Made a lot of money off those islands. best one day coon trapping I ever had was on the big island there. 75 sets = 52 coon. That year it was like 90 degrees and I thought I was gonna die of heat stroke totin them alll out. LOL
Then as usual the state stepped in and made all these stupid regs for the area. Get this one. We have to use dog proofs on the islands. No land sets other than dp's. But, there are no dogs allowed on either of the islands. None can be used to hunt or run. I asked why we can't use regular traps and land sets and they said cause of the dogs that may be caught. I said there aint no dogs sposed to be out there. he looked like he had been shot. Couldn't answer at all. Just took his papers and walked off. Idiots I tell ya....pure idiots.
aint nothing easy about trapping
