Stopped at an old fishing hole of mine yesterday while I was out and about and decided to give it a few casts. The spot is a drainage ditch that connects to a small river and meanders thru sveral small lakes and marshes and one large lake. There is a large cement culvert that runs under the road and drops into a pool about 15 feet wide and 50 feet long. I made a few casts in the upstream side of the road and nothing was biting so I went to the downstream side and made a long cast the length of the pool and reeled it in as it got to the fast water by the culvert I sudt let the spoon flip around in the current for a few seconds when suddenly a large mouth appeared right behind it and swalloed it. I set the hook and loosened the drag because I was using the light rod with 4 lb test line and I was into a 6 to 7 lb northern I had him on for a while but with no leader his teeth ended up cutting the line Sure was fun never caught a northern in that spot before either only bass and panfish. Strangely there didn't seem to be any there I wonder why
