Probably, depends on what U're after. (western cats, muskrats by the 1000's or wolverines and fishers.

I think you could probably target a high ticket item like cats or otter and be prepared to keep any incidentals you picked up. A lot would depend on where you live and how far you had to go to run your line.

Hey Cathryn, you know the only chance you got around here is beaver. With a 3 cat limit and no otter what are your other choices? I would like to break even some time.

$8 rats, around here, you could make a rat line profitable for awhile. Out west, I would say the cat line would be a good choice, plus a boatload of fun. WTA

weatern cats maybe but any thing else no.think about this ok a few years a go rats was 2.00 tops and this year 8..00 to 10.00 next year could fall back to 2.00 who knows .to do this you must have the very min.of 25 dz of every trap that you can get plus every size.you are set up for rats and fox goe up you will need good stroung fox traps same way with mink ,beaver ,and coyote.one year one will always bring a higher price but one animal has always been stable and thats the western cats.i long lined for a long time and to me the only way you can make a liveing trapping is one adc and two long lining for every thing.lets say you are running a long line for beaver and you float about 25 miles down the river and you see lets say 500 rat runs should you set them or leave them be.now you catch 2 rats per run thats 1000 rats as posted up a bove thier rats bring 8.00 now are you going to leave $8000.00 in the water or you going to take it as a profit you are already running the beaver sets so and you already go right by the runs no more time is really spent there.now you do the math.is it wise to only trap one animal .i would say no.if every one long lined otter how would they feed thier family this year.when you go after more then one type of fur you have some thing to work with if you only go after one animal you are taking a chance and may go hungry before its all said and done.
