here's and easy to get/make coon bait if ya ever need one in a hurry.
Go to wal mart and go to the fishing section and look for a jar(this one comes in glass) of a catfish bait called charlie's catfish bait,it's a tan looking bait with alot of shad in it,it is a dough bait. you can use it strait out of the jar as a smear bait and it just will not wash off, have had many coons fall for it and a couple cats. I also buy a small bottle of anise oil in the food isle and sometimes mix that in well, but it doesnt really need it. the first catch I ever made with this bait was a accident as I was fishing in the summer at a river at night and must have cast to far in the dark and got it on the opposite bank without knowing it,to make a long and terrifing story short about 30 minutes later I reeled in a very mad very upset catfrom across the river only this cat didn't have gills,it was released after ruining my jacket and I got the hook out with needle nose pliers that were not near long enough for me at the time.

Now i hate to give this away but you guys know i will lend a hand when needed. Go buy a bag of dry cat food and fry up a pound of bacon. Take the bacon grease and pour into the cat food. Now dont use this on town coons because you will catch every cat in the city limits. But go to the woods or creek banks and make some hole sets and apply this mix to the sets and see what happens the bacon makes a great call lure and the cat food does the rest. I am a poor man but this stuff works and for about 5.00 dollars enough to bait 40 or 50 sets. But remember possum gotta eat to.

My #1 killer is Sardines. I bait with them late in the evening so the ants dont get to them all before its nighttime. Hard to beat!!!! They cost nothing at the Dollar General.

I take a bag of whole corn and pour it into three plastic 5 gallon buckets.Next I fill them up with a mixture of water and pelleted calcium chloride(can be purchased at most concrete plants) After about three weeks, corn will be fermented.I then put this mixture into quart jars with loose fitting lids.At the trap site,I replace the lid with one that has a 3/4 inch hole in the middle. The jar is then buried up to the neck, just off a trail.I usually set a trap at 6 and 12 O'clock and back about 8-9 inches. One thing to remember is to keep the corn in the buckets and jars underwater so it won't dry out.Good luck

I never tried it, but u might doctor it up a bit like some of these others say. A coon lure, an all call lure will work, fish oil always works good, we use a lot of Jack mackeral when we have to buy it, coons will eat anything, go with the cheapest,

when storing small finny type fish in the freezer try storeing them in coffee cans. that way when they thaw out the fins arent poking holes in the bags and the juice running out. if you want to make a good bait (works on coon, fox and needless to say possum) that you only need a small amount of try this; equal parts sardines in oil and block type limburger cheese, grind all this up and mix well, add 1 lb smoked herring to this ; pack in jars and cover the top with a little glycern. can be used at water sets as well as land sets.

weel lets just say you dont want to get on your fingers. as far as smelling strong i'v served the ingredients around a campfire at a state trappers convention as well as an adult beverage (home made) i nobody complained about any of it; they did complain about the hot peppers i had put up in olive oil though. the next dasy i got a jar of the bait out and asked if anybody thought it smelled familar and i only got one reply. wont rpeat it because of the mixed company.

I use Carmal or Butterscotch icecream topping with about a teaspoon of Carmal extract added in live traps around cats. I use it in conni cubbies with shellfish/fish oil mix.

i cut em in half but i just use the small to medium size ones.I throw the big ones back. i just toss em in the hole..good trap placement and ya got em. Bluegill fillets are good, small but good. Don't throw them back, take them to the next trappers convention and have a fish fry.
