What pro athlete, past or present is the best role model? I like Terry Bradshaw, humble, clean, and a hard worker. Works his own ranch and then announces on weekends.

I'm not much in to sports, but I'd have to say that fella that gave up millions in the NFL to fight, and die, for our country, gets my vote.

Good point, cj. That deserves a karma.
I think being a role model should be the #1 priority of a pro athlete. They should realize that many young people are emulating them, they should have the best interest of those kids in their mind at all times.

you mean Terrel Owens isn't a good role model? ? What a jack butt, I can't believe that his untalented, big mouthed over rated but is still playing. He leads the league this year in dropped passes, just what a high priced player should huh? He'll probably get a raise next season I want my kids to have someone other then a athelete as a role model.

One that many hve forgotten ...Willie McGee........he played his sport....very well mind ya...and was never one to cause any uproars. He loved the game....played his best everytime he took the field, was a team player, and was very humble doing interviews. IMHO

I liked both Tony Gwynn and Kirby Puckett. Both classy gentleman. Never involved in controversy and most of all very loyal.

I believe the guy you are talking about cj is Pat Tillman or some thing like that. After doing some research Pat Tillman is his name, what an outstanding person he was, here is a link to who he was. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman

kirby puckett? didn't he beat his wife? Didn't know that. I didn't follow him for some years now. If that's true than he's off my list. Sorry if I offended anyone.

How about Clyde 'the glide' Drexler? I haven't heard anything bad about him, maybe I missed it.
When Clyde played for the Blazers and they won the champpionship they visited my nephew's school. Some of the kids pareents wanted to meet them after school, but some of the parent like my brother couldn't get there until after 5:00. Clyde and I believe Danny Ainge were the only ones that stayed and visited with the parents. I thought that was pretty cool of them.

Clyde was an excellent role model. A member of Phi Slamma Jamma at U Houston along with Akeeem Abdul Olajuwan. Class act all the way!! shame the new generation can't take a hint! ;D

From what I know, i like Tony Gwynn.
When I lived in San Diego, you couldnt turn on the local news without seeing Tony doing something for/in the communities of San Diego. And listening to him speak he sounds like a normal, modest, sincere, intelligent guy.
He is part of the reason why Cal Ripken gets on my nerves. hehe After I moved back to MD all I heard was how great Cal was and I dont think he gave to Balto. half what Tony gave San Diego.

FYI, Kirby Puckett died of a stroke. After retiring from baseball he gained a massive amount of weight and was told he needed to lose. He ignored this advice and paid the consequences.
He was arrested for spousal abuse and and another woman filed charges against him similar to those filed against Mike Tyson. As I recall, it was settled behind closed doors. It was rumored that the Twins organization bailed him out. He was a nice guy on the field and in public, but probably not a role model for your kids.
