How big a loop are you using? I haven't snared many beaver but you shouldn't be having that high percentage of tail catches. Loop should be no larger than 10 inches most times. Set on ground is OK.

Wouldn't mind understanding how you take those beaver by the tail on land. Might be a good way to have less snare marks on hde.

i will try to exsplain it.when you set a five ft snare and stake it to the ground, just take the rest and make the loop as big as it will goe.the snare will slide over his body but it will not tighten till it hits his tail.make sure the bottom of the snare is touching the ground. what makes this work is the large loop and the bottom resting on the ground.there is no fur damage with this set up.think about this when some thing is wet its slippery.the beaver is 9 chances out of 10 wet which makes the cabls slide over his body but the tail is a hard tixture and the snare grabs.if you have problems just let me know .i am here to help you as much as i can.

Good point Cat. there is no way that u can consistently snare them by the tail without missing a great majority of them.

well, if i was snaring, which i dont, i figure id aim for the bigger target ;D , and not his tail. dont you aim for either neck or behind the shoulders?
