to give the beginners a ideal on what will work for them for treating snares.....i use baking soda and the reason why is because it removes the oils and i like the dull grey color of my snares which blends in good in all types of weather even snow

I like the Formula 1 it is fast and easy when you have a bunch of snares to do. I also like painting them with a LIGHT coat of camo paint. If you coil them together and spray each side with different colors of camo, when you un-coil them they blend in so well I can hardly find them. But the spray paint is too expensive when you have 1000 snares to do so I use the F1.
I used to do the baking soda thing but I never liked the chalky feel or the resulting look of the snares. And I have learned this... You don't ever want to boil all the oil off your snares. I know that's controversial, but this is a learning post so here's why... If you boil off all the oil it removes the oils from the center strands of the cable, without this oil, the first time the snares see any moisture or high humidity the cable begins to corrode/rust from the inside, out. This is often very gradual, and if your snares are used and connect the first year-two after you boil them it will not be so big a deal... HOWEVER after a couple years in Iowa's climate the cable becomes stiffer and weaker. I've had snares get so bad that if you'd bend a kink in the cable by hand, the strands actually break (not all them but some). So I say if you have a few to do, use camo spray paint and if you have a bunch to do use the F1.
Furthermore- I venture to guess the baking soda guys have never tried the F1 or they would switch if for no other reason than the speed and way better camo look. I use the brown F1.

I am no snare expert last year was the first one's I had every set. I bought the black coted cable form the snare shop and it's great. when you hang the snare it just dissappears.
ADC have you tried any of this stuff yet?
Who bought the snare shop? Are they up and running yet?

Formula One was Formulated FOR snares. Then I tryed it on traps. It worked there too.
I agree with the man from the land of #9 wire.

ADC have you tried any of this stuff yet? Who bought the snare shop? Are they up and running yet? I never tried it, likely I never will. I spoke to the snare shop's new owner in Goshen, tried to deal with him on some wammies, but couldn't. I think I'll deal with some one else from now on. ~ADC~

I have talked to Rally Hess of Rally Snares on this subject and he just hangs them as is no soda, dip or paint and gets plenty of fur for his eforts.

I boil mine in baking soda and get all the oil off of them and then I hang them out and paint them, I use a light tan color to match the grass, and then I will streak them with a sage green color and brown to match the buck brush, since I have started doing this I get less refusals on the bigger cable.

I've got a lot of spray paint to use up, after that I will probably try some F1. I was going to paint my boat camo, but I sank her at the lake a couple of months ago, so now I have a bunch of paint.

Well, since I have never used F1 on snares I cn't comment about it, other than to say If Newt and ADC reccomend it then you can bet it's the stuff to use.

I soak mine overnight in vinegar, then rinse them with cold water the next day. They lose their shine and turn a dull, gray color.
