You do not have to have 9 wire all the time.Other wire will work , you just have to have the right support collar.Who told you that you have to use 9 wire?

Newt always uses #14 wire. He says the key to a good support system is to anchor the support wire in 2 places. There is a pic of his setup on this board.

For CRs you need #9. You can off a tree but that isn't legal for CRs. ~ADC~ Thats not quite true.Just cut a small sapling say an inch around.Attach some wire where you want your CR.Push sapling into ground for support. Not only do you save on wire , you are using a more natural look to your CR and its legal because the sapling is break away and poses no threat of entanglement. We use both 11 and 14 gage wire in this application. So once again. You do not always have to use 9 wire.Just my 2 cents.using this app. requires only about 5 inches of wire , max.

There is just NO reason to use a swivel that big. Is all.. No one even, ever heard of a #9 swivel till The Snare Shop started making them.

I use 14 gauge folded and then twisted...So its about the same stiffness as a #9 I guess. I have so many rolls of 14 thats why I use them

Knit pickers. LOL I like the #9 swivels and #9 for supprt wire. That system I showed can be set up in about 10 seconds and I can re-use my swivels for years and years and years.

and years and years and years.
I'll bet you can use them for a long time!
Do you use #9 when you make your own swivels, ADC?

I only make my own if I'm building snares and run out with just a few to got them I use a coat hanger wire use them once and throw them away with the kinked snare cable. I just got a heck of deal on #9 swivels though so I don't think I'll be running out anytime soon. The only time I lose them is if I sell some snares or they get stolen, other wise they last forever...

great info fellas!!!
i have a problem though..see i have 3 doz. cr and the number nine wire will not fit in the holder on the restraint. the wire is too big..i tried the number 12 wire and it's a perfect match!!a little flimbsy but it says put .i won't really know how good though until i get to set one, lol!!!so you all think that the number 12 is too small of wire and the critter's will just knock it over ? is that what i'm getting from you all here? man i hope not cause the # 9 wire will not fit in the holders or whatever there called, lol!!!

Merdy, I am not sure how to answer you. Ask Newt, he has his own board here and is one of the most knowledgeable snaremen I have ever met...and he is very willing to help.

Merdy are you talking about the aluminum double ferrals if thats the case just drill the side with the hole a little bigger. I think the ones you have are set up with the double ferrals. They are set for the 3/32 cable. If i am not wrong but i could be.
