lets break this down....take rust when its above the ground it has no smell why because the air breaks the odor down now take this small piece of iron and bury it .it can not air out .which in returns causes a stroung odor....if the air did not affect the smell then we could over lure a set and it would not matter and we all know that if we over lure a set it takes a animal longer to work that set....take the wind the strounger the wind the less time it takes to weaken the odor and the less wind the more time it takes to mellow out the odor....so i beleave that the air flow is the answer to why a rusty trap works in part of the country and not at another..the same way with peeing near a set.

you could be right who really knows? Since our nose vectors are about the size of 10 feet and a canines is the size of a football field. They have the advantage on smell.

rusty think about this with the campfire set all the ashes and burned wood weakens the smell of human scent...i don't want to go on a peeing match..what works for me might not work some were else..i did not say that that a animal will not work a rusty trap i said its best not to because if its a old smart one that has smelled human scent and has be pinched by a trap with human scent connect with it then you will have trouble....thats a fact.....i catch grey fox,red fox ,coons and beaver by the numbers ...i let them tell me if i am right, you beleave what you want to buddy
