i have heard from a trapper and buyer who usually traps 700-1000 coon himself and buys another 2000-2500 and he said that it is estimated the coon catch is off 40%.He lives in Illinois.
He advised me to hold all coon cause the skys the limit at this point.
He usually buys 2000 to 2500 and was only able to buy 900 this season. He trapped 400 himself.
Theyre blaming the low coon catch on drought, Gas prices, and an early freeze up out in the midwest.
This guy is credible, just thought id pass on his info.

I've heard the same from a buyer here in PA - he's not as large as the guy you talked to sunny, but he said numbers are "way down" for everything.

In MN I believe that the DNR claims a drop in the furbearer harvest of around 40%. high 30s really.

should be interesting next fall to see if prices start good and then tank. I sold in november all the coon I had at the time. Needed the freezer space for deer meat. I sure wish I would have held them and sold late in the season. My late coon I got more than double the price. Oh well

Coon harvest was down here also..I would say around 40% also. I was down 4000 hides compared to last year. If the May sale goes good i would not be surprised if the September sale was cancelled.

Really? the whole sale why for lack of fur? Its just not the coon thats short..the overall catch is way off. There won't be enough Fur to offer. The only Fur that they'll have will be what ever didn't make the May sale or late shippers(mostly Spring Beaver) NAFA is already talking about this..Trust Me!!!

Theres just to many factors involved to make a call on next years Fur market. We all need to get through the May sale first.

What is it that drives the catch down - or is it a combination of things. I hear gas prices, early and/or extreme winters and poor prices. Obviously the prices aren't driving the catch down right now as they are on an upswing.
