I caught 4 big channel catfish today and a whole slew of bluegills for coon bait.
Alexys went too and she was excited cause she caught her first ever completely solo fish today. She caught a bunch of bluegills and her very own channel cat that measured about 15 inches or so and weighed at least a couple pounds. Shes very excited. No pics cause my cameras in the shop.

ty fellas. in 2 days of fishing we've caught 150 or so bluegills and theyd come out to about 400-500 coons baits..some of them were HUGE.

bream, I like to cut in half. That way i can either have the head looking out the hole or the tail of the fish going in the hole...eye appeal....when i use hering i do the same, except I cut in thre pieces, and put the midle piece sideways.

i like me cause they held up better than the trout and defintely better than sardines.

Do you cut them now and just freeze them till fall?

no freeze em now, then when we have time, and theyre bout halfway thawed out you cut them. they cut easier if theyre partially frozen, imo.

Is that the only bait/lure you use for coon? Do you let em sit out and stink up at all first? Using them in a cubby? I want to work on getting some more coon next year - and I can't believe I'm asking trapping questions of sunny?

I like it fresh Scansy, it still has plenty of smell, and also because mink and otter like fresh kills, not tainted.

Thanks. I will freeze some bluegills and sunnies this summer. But I think the biggest problem I have for catching coon - is finding the right spot.
