Case; because it sharpens easily, holds a fairly good edge, and has a good strong company(with a warranty), behind em.

Buck knives. I've had one in particular for 20 years. It has gutted at least 50 deer and I've sent it back to Buck once to resharpen. It holds an edge like no other knife I have ever owned.

Schrade, before they sold out to China.
Gerber, WR Case & Sons, CRKT, Emerson, Randall. All good brands.

Old yellow box Schrade, Case, US made Buck, and old Camillus. I like Cold Steel but their quality isn't like it was. I don't have any but, Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw are most fine. I prefer carbon steel but decent stainless is not to be scorned.
Swiss knives, Opinels, Rappala fillet knives, and Moras are the best bang for the buck.
I like blades to be easily sharpened without special gizmos, but Buck and CS are best done on a Lansky or Spyderco Sharpmaker.
I use a patent pull sharpener on fillet knives. Works good even though they disapear into a stone or sharpener anyways.

Case and Mora. I've owned a couple of Bucks and a Gerber, I didn't care for them at all, compared to others I have had.
Schrade Sharp Finger is a good all around knife!

for a couple of years i used the FROST brand in my fur shed,(lock back) dont remember the model. yes they were made in both Japan and China; on the other hand i had them for use not for looks. they kept a blade better than anyother knife i used (mstly high carbon drop point knifes from Chicago) and were not hard to re-sharpen. my carry knives range from Gerber, Schrade, and Case. they look good, sharpen easy and get the job done, all locked back about 3 inches long, have had them for years; gut all kinds of critters, skinned fox and coon in the woods (in my younger years i ran hounds), cut bait, cleaned fish. good all around knives.

Buck knifes is 2.5 miles from my door and they sure support the community. If fact CJ lives about a mile from my son in the wolf lodge area east of me. Have several Bucks but my favorite is a custom made one. Skinn'n yotes is only done with a Case Trapper

gonna give the Ka-Bar that I won in the auction to a good friend of mine's son. He hasn't been long back from Iraq, and just made it through Special Forces school. He will be stationed out of NC. A fine young man who loves his country.
