the 410 withe the three inch #4's was the very first gun and shells I used over 40 years ago when I went for the first time. Now I use a 22 mag/20 gauge combo, with a 1 1/2 power scope. I just take head shots.

my savage .22 10 clip bolt.use a .20 gauge if i'm out of shells on the .22.but i think the .22 is alto more fun for me because on a 20 gauge you just aim anywhere close and bang.lol

My .410 is a New England single-shot, so if i miss, i gotta reload no fast follow up shots, but after i get my 7 mag barrel for my TC , im gonna get a 12 gauge barrel for it and it will be my turkey gun and maybe squirrel

I hunt them. Use a 16gage - a bit big for squirrels, but most of the places I go, there's a chance of flushing something else on my way in/out. I always aim at the nose (or even in front of the nose if the shot is a little longer) - trying to not ruin too much meat that way.
I can't use a 22 around here - no rifles allowed.

use my all around 12 ga, just adjust what type of loads i use. we are allowed to use .22 rifles in my county but most of my squirrel hunting is in fence rows and small wood lots, not many shots to be taken safely. now after deer season if i want a challenge i'll take the .22 hornet into the mountain and only take head shots, would probably starve with what i get (i'm sitting in one place watching a feeding area).

my grandpa used to go in the woods when the mulberries came in, and set at one tree. He said it was not at all uncommon for him to have 6-8 squirrels in the tree at one time. He used a shotgun. He said he got scared one time when he saw the tree limbs shaking and he shot, the "squirrel" fell out of the tree with a thump, and he ran up to it; but it wasn't a squirrel....he didn't know what it was...soon after that it was discovered that he had killed the first groundhog he had ever seen....lol....this was in the 1920's.

LOL, bout a week or two ago I was riding my 4-wheeler around on the farm next to a timber line. Well a groundhog darted in front of me and me being the person I am . I pushed the throttle down to try and hit it but it made it to a tree before i could run it over. 1st time i had ever seen one climb. But it got the .22.
