I know that there's bolt on trap lams....but what about baseplates? One of our younger members was asking about them...

I guess you could drill holes and bolt baseplates on no problem. Even Charles Dobbins had traps with bolt on mods.

Yep you sure could.Use to do it that way before I had a wire feed to weld with. They held great and never had one come loose in 10 years of using traps done that way.I used 3/16" machine screws and nuts and after tightening I would put in a vice and secure the trap and take a chisel score the threads so the nut couldn't back off.

Blackcoyote - instead of scoring the threads, did you ever try a lock washer? I was thinking about baseplating some traps, but don't have access to welding.
Does anyone know where I can buy the bolted on lams and baseplates?

Never seen em' come pre-drilled. Most folks just buy the J.C. Conners base plates, clamp em' onto the trap, and drill both holes at once. Stake the bolt shank with a center punch or chisel, and you're all set.

Scansy, never tried the lock washer but it would work I think.I've seen pre drilled baseplates for bolt ons but can't find em'.Just use regular ones, clamp tight, drill and bolt.

Lock washers help, but, it would still be good advice to scuff up the threads , just in case!

Thanks guys. I was using all 1-1/2 bridgers last year since I don't have any yotes near home here, but did trap up north some too and if I grabbed a yote in one of my dirtholes, figured it would pull out. I plan to get some #2s this year to use up there and will baseplate and put a spring in the chain.

You can buy rivets and rivet tools(NOT pop rivets). They look similar to the rivets you see on Sleepy Creek traps. You can usually find them at a good farm supply or a tractor supply store.

Read some good advice on WAT about bolting a large washer on the under side of the levers of cs traps to hold the spring ends in place in case you get a coyote or other critter that beats the trap up bad.
