Yup, got a new water purification product. It works fine. According to Katadyns website it takes 4 hours to kill viruses and 30 minutes to kill bacteria and cysts.
Very convenient and lighter and takes up less space than my Katadyn filter (a hand pumped contraption that cost $90 with extra filter.) They're great for those with iodine tolerance problems. There is very little taste. Iodine tastes sort of nasty.
On the minus side, the tabs cause tissue burns if handled. The package says Sodium Chlorite 6.4% and Sodium Dichchloroisocyanurate Dilhydrate 1%. The price? $14 for twenty. Ouch!
Still, for occasional use they beat iodine tabs with the neutralizer.
Edited because I think I need bifocals.

Sounds good. I've never used one. Heck, my grandpa used to tell of when he was plowing corn, that he would stop the horses and drink out of a cow track if necessary; but I've never been quite that thirsty

Uncontrollable goose pooping isn't pretty, could ruin a Holiday or something. My brother (who's been everywhere) can tell you stories about Peru and bad food in Laos.
I've drunk water from local springs with no ill effects. It's a controlled risk but maybe it isn't a very good idea.

It seems local's immune systems get used to the minor bugs in the water. If you really want to get back at invasive neighbors, become a carrier. (ahem)

The water might be the reason there is no population around! It ain't just people that can pollute water. Beaver fever comes from over abundance of beaver, and deer and elk have a habit of laying in water when they have a fever, then dieing there. You don't want to drink downstream of that.

If I drink any water, no matter where it is I add enough whiskey to kill any microbes that might be in it, usually 4 parts whiskey to 1 part water, counting the ice cubes.
