got bubby a box of 550 Federal rifle shells with his gun for Christmas and it seems like alot of them arent firing.
is it the bullets or the gun?
ive heard that the clips that they come with sometimes wear out quick.
any ideas?

shorts or Lr's?
I seem to get alot of dud shorts the past few years. Don't know why the clip would keep the gun from firing....only from loading............. the shell is not in the clip when the pin hits it.
I like federal ammo myself...although many don't.

I had some 30-06 Federals that were getting stuck by the firing pin but wouldn't go off. Returned them for a refund.

I've had problems with econo/ plinking ammo in the past. They were Remington cheapies.
The only time to worry is getting squib rounds that lodge bullets in the bore. That's a seriuos problem.

Haven't had any trouble with federals, it is all the Remington ammo that i am having trouble with.. Shot 800 shells the other day and about 20 were duds..Then me and my friend shot like 400 Federals yesterday and they weres shootin slick. Federals and Winchester are what my gun likes and what i like. lol

My .22s all seem to prefer regular CCI . Never had any trouble with them, other than the Stingers some times hang up when ejecting in my semi-auto.

I practice alot with 2 ruger single six revolvers. Hense the ammo is cheaper. I've bought all brands of bulk 22 ammo and probably shoot a thousand rounds a month. I've had problems with all manufactured ammo to some extent or another. They just aint maken them like they used too. I guess if I had to pick the one with the least problems it would be CCI. I reload most of all my Rifle and pistol ammo and I prefer CCI primers also. JMO

Older marlin semi autos and Ruger 10/22's wouldnt cycle Federal Lightnings worth a darn. Most of our .22's cyvle and fire the Remington Thunderbolts good as far as economy/cheaper ammo. CCI Mini-Mags are some of the best .22's made but you pay for them dearly and they are hard on some squirrels, furbeareres and eatin critters. Our CCI's here are just a tad cheaper then .22 magnums.
