I had a couple people ask me on T-man what my "smear/rub set" was. So I made them a pictorial of how I make it but while I was on the pics for it I figured I'd go ahead and put it on here.
BTW- I haven't made my sticky sweet bait yet but for easy vision the spray paint will be the "bait"(of course I don't really use it it's just there so you can see where I put it)
It's a quick and easy set to do and it's productive in MY area for ME.
Supply's you'll need
Hammer/digging£ing tool (I use the claw on the hammer for digging)
Trap(Using a 1.5 monty)
Stake or some kind
Bait/lure ("spray paint")
Sifter
some sort of pan cover or something to keep debris out from under your pan I'm using a cotton ball
First pick your location at a tree, I know theirs coon in this area and this tree is off from a deer/other critter trail so I know a coon will eventually go by this from the scat I've found nearby
Next Position your trap to where the pan is about 6 inches or so from the bas of the tree and mark around the trap so you know where to dig your bed.
Now dig your trap bed just big enough for your trap
Bed your trap even with the surrounding ground and SOLID!, stake it down how you like, and add your pan cover/thing under pan to keep stuff out.
Sift your dirt over your trap and blend it in with your surrounding, I used crunched leaves to help blend it.
Now for the last part add your bait, You can smear it all over the tree how you like, It doesn't really matter because it will soak into the tree and the coon will go wild working trying to get it all off and eventually land it's foot on your pan. I make my bait from P-nut butter, jelly, molasses, maple syrup, and choc. syrup, when It gets colder I add fish to the mix so the scent can disperse better in that cold weather.
Like I said just got bored and posted it here. I'm sure most probally know this set like the back of their hand, But it works for me great on coons and even caught a gray fox on this set before.
