I agree with it. Take your time and do it right.Besy way to learn is to watch someone that knows how and ask questions.

Like I said before, I think that folks that sell green or in the round this year are in for a BIG surprise. Not a pleasant one, either.

I'll be buying in the round this year. Top price will $6.00 XXX / $4.00 XX / $2.00 XL. I will not be interested in anything smaller than XL(10 lbs.) or low grades of any size.

I sold in the round all of last year. This year I'll be puttin a lot more time in the fur shed. My buyer won't take coons in the round and everything else is like %50 off if you do. Guess it's time to learn a few things. Humility, I've got that down so I'm hoping for something else. lol

Hey Sunshine, do you know what the furbuyers in WV are paying this year? I know what prices I'll be getting where I usually sell my fur but I'd like to know what others are paying as well.

Stopped by my local guy yesterday. He wasn't in...... shoulda called first. He has always bought in the round and will again this year - but the sign on the door said he will pay $1 max for a fox (gray or red), $1 max for a coon, $2/$4 max for mink. There were other critters on the list too, but don't remember those numbers. These are all in the round. He pays a teen who lives nearby to help with skinning/stretching. The kid gets $2 per critter. I'm guessing this guy is worried about getting his $3 total back on sales. Like someone else said - I am going to put up fur this year I think. I have a guy who will help me to learn. I figure if I screw up a fox or coon - I'm out $1 I would have got selling in the round.

If a critter is properly skinned, stretched, dried, how long can someone hold onto it? A year? Many years?

Properly put up and held in the right conditions, fur can be held several years. I have had fur as long as 5 years that sold for a good price.
You do not have the proper conditions to hold fur for long periods, unless you have a humidity controled and temp. controlled room.

Thanks. Maybe my wife will let me hand fur in the living room for a year or two.

I'm not really targeting anything this year. I got a few coon, mink, & rats. I'm doing some nuisance beaver work for the right to trap in future years on the land and some wood cutting. Not expecting to make much this year, but enjoy the pride that comes with finishing fur myself.
