I had to wax a few traps that I finished up on today and was wondering how everyone else waxes their traps. I dip two at a time in HOT wax and let them set for a few minutes so the trap becomes the same temp as the wax. This makes for an even thin cote of wax that seems to stick to the metal a lot better.
I've bought traps from people and they would be globbed up with wax. I guess they just dip them real fast not letting the trap get as hot as the wax so they get a heavy build up of wax on their trap. This is not good IMO it chips off in big flakes while traveling to your locations. The shipping boxes would be full of flaked off wax.
I've also seen traps with some kind of wax on them that's real brittle and flakes off real easy. I use a wax I buy from RP-Outdoors. It goes on smooth and is very hard to flake off.
I know waxing traps is a simple thing that most take for granted but I have seen the proof not everyone does it the same.

I agree OST.I've got some used traps that were caked with wax and there is no way you could set them.Trap gets to be the same temp as the wax and it's a nice thin coat.

I also add dry leaves in my plastic boxes to cushin the traps and it gives them a woodsy smell.
