I have heard of something similar to this set before but I kinda changed a few things and just wondering if anybody has tried anything like it before.
1st you must have killed a rabbit and caped it out to its head which you then chop/twist off. You can save the meat for your own consumption because you will only nead the head and fur.
2nd dig a hole about 3-4 inches wide and about 6 or so inches deep. Take the rabbits caped fur and put down the hole and stake it down with some sort of thing in the hole(so the animal will have to work a little for it giving more of an opportunity to get caught), leaving the rabbits head and ears sticking out of the hole giving the look of a rabbit looking out of a hole.
3rd Bed your trap around 9 inches or a little less back from the rabbits head giving a low dip where the pan is to guide the predators paw somewhat.
4th smear your favorite lure on the rabbits head/ears which will act as a lure holder and the head will also give out plenty of eye appeal.
I know thats kind of a "rough idea" of the set, I haven't tried it yet but I could imagine it to be very affective and a good "mix-up" set. I plan on trying it alot this season. So let's hear the comments about it and if you've tried it with or without success?

Caught a couple reds on a hillside last year doing something similar...I don't know why it wouldn't work? Anything can happen when ya think outside the box.

Sounds like it would work great, but I don't think it's legal to have any of it exposed in WV. I'm pretty sure it has to be completely concealed from sight if it is an animal or animal part. I have used a rabbit carcass before with it concealed and it worked for me. Squirrel worked for me as well.

One of the old trappers here caught a golden eagle in a set similar to that!
I have used a scrap piece of fur and a taxidermists glass eye shoved way back in a hole. It's a dynamite mink set, but works for canines and cats, too!

Catching golden eagles sure as heck isn't. That's why I stay away from sight bait as much as possible unless it's hidden under a canopy of some kind.

If presented in that manner, real good way to catch a hawk, or owl, in our part of the country. And neither one is easy to turn loose.
