i run very little.
i want every possum, skunk, coon or gray that steps on my pan. i trap hunting clubs that love turkeys so they want all the predators gone not just the big three. they want to see numbers.

very little also.i run long lines and that means eather i produce a lot of fur or i work for some one in the summer and after this year that will not happen( work for some one).i want every thing that steps on my pan.i used to set heavy till one year i got to thinking man what am i doing .one year while trapping fox i turned 200 coon loose and then found out the fur buyer was paying $15.00 each thats like burning $3000.00 .every since then i set light and keep every thing.

I run very little also. Sometimes my traps may be used from mink to bobcat. Don't mind possums, fur is fur, get enuff of anything and it adds up.

earl you are right .one year i run low on bait so i set 40 110 traps in rat runs for bait (refused to catch a $2.00 rat) that week i caught 200 rats in those runs and boy did i wake up.$400.00 in a week bought a months worth of gas.so i say set light.those traps stayed put after that.

I have zero pan tension. On the other hand the pan does require some weight to fire, because of the dog. So the pan will fall with it's own weight, but the dog does give it a little tension. Make sense?

I don't use much tension either, except on my cat traps, I want a cat or a coyote to be fully commited before the jaws do their thing.
Man, I'm glad to hear you guys talk about keeping the cheap fur. Those guys that talk about throwing possums away and turn their nose up at nutria pizz me of. To me they are like trophy hunters compared to meat hunters like me. A good part of my fur check is low ticket items, especially nutria.
I should be getting a fur check in the mail next week, I hope it's a good one.

I have zero pan tension. My pan will not stand up on it own. I also went to a night latch with a hair trigger. I have been taking all my fox with their foot still on the pan. High catchs.

Let me see if this works. Here is what no pan tension and a hair trigger will get you on a fox.

Oh ya, it worked fine. Here are a few pics of the cat I have taken this season. All with 0 pan tension and hair triggers. these two cats came off the same line about 400 yards apart. Oh wrong cats. LOL

Bill I R&R for little dinks to eat whole. I took these on set hooks and throw lines in the Red River. They weighted 46, 58, and 60 lbs. I had a pile of other little ones to go with them, they were just the largest one.

Bill you ever go to the site catfish1.com. the BOC, Brother Hood of Catfisherman. I hang out there a lot. I have been a member now for over 2 years. Great place to meet folks. We have a small local group that gets together and tells lies about once every 2-3 months. We have a lot of fun. If you ever check it out, go to the Louisiana thread, fishing on the Red River. We talk more than anyone on the site.
