How many of you have retrievers or upland bird dogs? Do you use your dogs in competitions? Are they professionally trained or did you train them? I have 2 Labrador Retrievers that I use only for hunting and did the training my-self as I could not afford to have it done professionally and never wanted to go in the competitions. Use to go in the coon hound trials back years ago when I had my Red Bone. This is a pic of my dawgs. And a few of my game.

I've got male and a female black labs. Both areout of hunting quality dogs. Female came from a DU function and the male came out of a grand champion field trial dog. They are both trained in the dove field, by me and were very quick studies. Never seem to have the time to do a lot of goose hunting, but do some early duck jump shooting. I used to coon hunt with a redbone also ;D

Here's a picture of one of ours 1/2 lab 1/2 setter. Great little Grouse and Pheasant dog. Kind of spoiled though. She's not very big but all business in the field. The brown is out of a litter from the year before also a good hunter.

Here's a couple more Labs. They were great retrievers. Just put the black one to sleep 6 weeks ago.

I have been with and around hunting dogs my entire life. As a youngun my dada and I raised and trained labs for dove hunting, and quail hunting. As retrievers only. Altough a few of them would point quail. Also have had beagles, coon hounds, and squirell dogs. A state trooper and I had one real good line of "bench leg" beagles goiing for a few years. 10" tall and ran rabbits really well. Still don't really know why we stopped the line. Have had all sorts of hounds for coon huntin. best I have ever had myself was an old ugly Plott hound, hardest treeing hound I have ever seen. Squirell dogs I have had everything from hounds to fiests. Had a real good collie, a real good J. Russel, and a mutt. My son raises and trains black and tans now. He trains hounds from all over the US. Has a Black dog now from Ks., came home one day and it was on his porch with a note to train it. He don't even know the fella that owns it. LOL...he says it is a real good deer dog.....

I had a "liver" German Shorthair (Grand Champion German Import) who ventured out of his dog box this winter and died in the snow peacfully, he was an oldy, but was about as perfect as a hunting dog one could ever hope to own. I have a "liver" German wirehair (slick coat) that will hunt till the sun goes down and then some. I have a "salt & Pepper" German Wirehair yearling that shows huge promise. And lastley, I have a beautiful, but older, Black Lab, who is now retired. My Lab is the communties dog and is allowed to run free will. She's been a real good one, and very natural sensed. I had a real knockout Brit, that I realy loved, but sold for good money a couple years ago, which reminds me to point out, that if you have a great dog that clicks with you, and does the job all day, without raising your blood pressure, by all means keep it around! No amount of money should be accepted, if you truly find a dandy I train all of my own dogs, and train for others as well.

Ihad a German shorthair, that would point anything that was strange to him, ie, cats, deer, rabbits, foxes and groundhogs, as well as quail and grouse. Finest dog I ever owned!

I had a 1/2 shorthair, 1/2 pointer. He would hunt all day 5 days a week. Excellent nose and the most bird sense I've ever seen.
