We live on the edge of Sage Grouse habitat. Some years back I shot a male that went well over 6.5 lbs. They are the size of domestic chickens. They are getting rarer and rare every year. I want to shoot one for a life size mount before they are gone.
We do have unlimited Sharpies though, and they are extremely tough survivors and and also quite tastey.

I have at it before. It's really good. Unlike rat on a stick I had once in a china restaurant.

Have you ever tried grouse.....? If so, you wouldn't roll those eyes. You're right Scansy. It is probably the best tasting of all wild game. At least Ruffed grouse is. I wish there numbers were higher here. I'd like to bag a few of them and make a nice meal.

Ruffed Grouse are the only ones I've had - and I too wish there were more around. I don't know if they're the best - pheasant is pretty dang good too. I've seen a couple of them this year - one in a field across the road from where I have permission, in a field where I don't have permission. And the second standing looking at me within a safety zone.
