I use 8"s or 9's for early season doves. they have upped our limit to 15 this year ;D..probably gonna go with my Dad, and put him on a spot, and watch for him. think I'm gonna take my lab to fetch em back ;D

If I remember correctly it's because they're considered song birds. I'll find out for sure and let you know. It'll be after the weekend.

like most everything else it depends on how your hunting them. for general all 1/4around shooting i like a heavy load (1 1/14 oz in a 12 ga or 1oz in a 20 ga) of size 7 1/2 or 6 shot. yes they are pretty but they are a bird invented by the shell companies. if you never hunted them you wouldnt know what i'm talking about but they are hard to hit.

Yes they're hard to hit. In CA we'd pass shoot doves and bandtailed pigeons as they flew over with full choked 12 gauges.
Not worth it for a cigarette size piece of breast.

smaller than a piegon, probably about half size. the meat isnt as dark as piegon but would not say its white meat.

We ate them marinaded in garlic and herb and brushed with butter while grilled lightly...with plenty of Coors beer. I'm sure the beer helped.

some of you guys need to feed em better, the breast are about the size of 3 fingers, tapered. of course. 5-6 would be a nice dinner for most....I take about 8, wrapped in bacon ;D

We have morning doves here but they are protected, considered as song birds. The Rock dove or common pigeon is listed as other game and can be shot but usually just as nuisance control not for eating.
