SC has the longest deer hunting season in the country. aug 15th till , correct me if im wrong HC, December 31st.
whoever hunts em this early had better have a way to cool them down the minute they hit the dirt or theyre gonna have a buncha spolt meat on their hands, imo.
id just as soon wait till November like WV does.

Why have a season that early? Is there a reason behind it? Just being curious...

We have deer coming out our ears. Shoot as many bucks as ya want and I believe there are 9 doe days and ya can buy 4 doe tags to use any time during the season. Kind of like heaven aint it? ;D ;D

Average coastal doe 80-100lbs Average Swamp buck 130-160 Have got 8 pointers close to 200 lbs though. They get a little bigger towards the western part of the state. I have no problem filling the freezer every year.

id hate to have to get it wporked up so fats though klilling them this early.
i like to let them hang a few days if its cold enough. i think the meat tatses better if you d it that way.
also HC do ta'll field dress em or bring em home and then gut em out?

I hang um, dress um, Quarter um, And Ice um for three days prior to processing the meat. It always taste better if ya age it a few days! Of course the tender loin gos in the fry pan the next morning after the kill! And your right! If ya make a bad shot and can't find it after 6 hours. Ya might as well leave it for the buzzurds. But then, They got to eat too! Right? ;D

i dont know why anyone wouldnt gut em first. here we have to drag em bout anywhere ya shoot em and theres no sense having to drag that extra weight.

I havent guted um in the woods since I got a four wheeler. A one mile drag through a cutdown will make you give up deer hunting. Or buy a four wheeler, I choose the latter! ;D
