they were a backward bunch that started this western trend.Seems they could only count on one hand at a time so it was 4 on this hand 4 on that hand or 5 on this hand 5 on tha other ;D
easterners used fingers an toes togather ;D

The reason is, we like to know how many points on each side. Lets say you told me you shot a 13 point, that tells me it had 13 points counting both antlers, what we may say is 8x5, now you know that one side has more points than the other. Why is it that everyone including easterners dont do the same on elk? Every elk hunter I have guided always said 6x6 or 5x5 Whats up with that?

Easterners count them that way because their deer are so puny. an 8 point sounds bigger than a 4x4 or just a 4 point.

Wrong, it's what's called proper breeding!! U take the smartest and breed to the most voluptious and be happy with what u get!! Out west, I hear tell u take Jo Schmoe and breed it to a sheep ;D Explains it all ;D

We count our elk as 4x4 5x5 etc. Now here's where we did ours a little differently.
We had a bull brought into the check station that would be considered by most scorers to be a 10x12. We put it down as an 8x10. We don't count stickers as points, even though scorers count anything over an inch.
I'll try and dig up a picture of one that is like this.
