Today as I was sitting on the porch, I was thinking back to the time, I had met my wife Suzi and such a good feeling it brought to me, and a little grunt of a laugh. So I thought I would share them with you.
On Christmas eve 1986, Suzi and I had a date, and at the end of the date I told Suzi I had something important to ask her. So we went home and suzi built a nice fire in the fireplace. Suzi just knew I was going to ask her to marry her, which was in fact my intent.
Well anyway, after having a long day in the hospital ER, and then the date, sitting in front of the fireplace put this ole boy into one of those deep sleeps, that no one can wake you out of, and God knows she tried. She was so peeved at me that she just went to bed and left me sleeping in the chair.
Christmas morning I woke up about 5am, and could have kicked myself for what I did, and wondered how I was going to get out of this one.
So I came up with this great idea, I took her ring and wrapped it up with a nice christmas wrap then wrapped it in brown paper, and made out a Crhistmas card with her name and address on it and took it out and put it in the mailbox.
After the Christmas presents were opened and as we set down to a nice Christmas dinner (by the way Suzi was still peeved at me although she denies it), I got up and looked out the front window, and told Suzi that some guy had just put something in her mailbox. She went out to the mailbox and came back in with her package and the card.
As she set down to open the card I asked her who it was from, a secret boyfried, she said she didn't know, as the card was not signed.
Then as she opened the package, and took out the ring box, I got down on my knees in front of her and asked her to marry me, as she opened the ring box.
Never saw a woman cry so many happy tears in my life. It sure made Christmas turn out to be a wonderful day.
